Before you travel from the Melbourne or Sydney hotspot please ensure that you are not carrying the virus.
Many rural areas medical facilities can not cope with anyone distributing the virus to people in country towns and if numbers of affected people rise quickly many hospitals will not cope.
If you are safe and healthy where you are then stay there, it will be better for you and much better for people in areas where you intend to travel.
A medical person said to me the other day, if you consider leaving the safety of your present location then before you go assume that you may be infected and assume that all you may encounter may have it as well.
The original request from all authorities was,
Just Stay Put...avoid all travel.

Good advice about staying put.
We have planned our upcoming trip from Brissy through SW Qld, but it remains just that, a plan . We are currently set to leave at the end of next month.
Given today's news of three cases in nearby suburbs, I would not be surprised if we have a significant outbreak in our area.
I think that I may just increase my small holding of masks & sit tight for a bit longer. Perhaps try making a few myself.
If things are not cleared by our proposed departure date we might just see if we can get tested before leaving.
edit .. Dammed shame about that new set of rubber for both the Tug & Van as well as a new battery, not to forget a full tank of juice (cheap at the moment) just sitting there. Oil change grease & check service done too. I've never been so ready.

Hi Cupie
It is so disappointing because we as a state have done the right thing for so long having had to endure virtually no travel, closed venues, then a couple of restricted distances, we have reduced the numbers to nil and we then were permitted to live an almost normal life in Qld while the borders remained closed.
Then, she caved under the pressure and opened the borders thus having the potential to put us back to the beginning. It took one traveller to infect clientele and staff at the Crossroads Hotel and look at Sydney now.
Melbourne and to the lesser degree the state of Victoria is really a write off at the moment but it is heartening to see that their numbers have dropped over the last two days. I am sure we all hope and pray that this reduction will now be the trend.
Stay safe and you are to be admired for your very own self regulation after this announcement of the actions of these two girls.

Mike I had no idea that the central coast was now considered to be part of Greater Sydney I always thought Greater Sydney started on the southern side of the Hawkebury River. I only hope Sydney doesn't expand any further north or Lake Macquarie could be consumed and we much prefer remaining as part of Greater Newcastle. We have just had 2 more cases reported in Port Stephens as a result of a visitor from Sydney visiting a local restaurant so I don't blame the action that has been taken by the Qld government. It is becoming more and more likely that we will be forced to return to lockdown and all travel banned again because it seems some people are just too stupid to follow the rules..

How long to people suggest you stay put and not travel for, 1 month, 1 year, maybe wait for a cure. A cure could be years away if one is found at all, we have to learn to live with this virus because it could be around for a very long time. You have to take responsibility for your own health as well as fellow Australians but that doesnt mean you cant do that while travelling. Most travellers arent irresponsible morons.
Apart from Victoria medical experts arent suggesting you stay at home and not travel, Qld has shut the borders to Sydney, 6,000,000 people live in Sydney area, that means about 5,999,800 dont have the virus.

I am not surprised on your view and I agree that we should all realise that virus is here for the long term which is unfortunate.
What I dont understand is the number of people that believe we can still travel about the place and have no affect on the spread of the virus.
The virus does not walk from suburb to suburb nor does it drive itself out into regional areas. The Victorian current stats are telling us that this virus is now encroaching on regional areas. The report this morning is that there is a positive case in Portland. Colac is another area where infection has been found. Then look at NSW.
I do not agree with you that medical experts are advocating that travel is OK. The so called experts that are stating that travel is fine are the ones being paid for interviews, I can assure you that they dont represent the majority of doctors.
Look at the successful Aussie states performances and look at New Zealand, they have all been or still are locked down to prevent the spread.
This complete situation has become a political football and we are now unfortunately in a situation of one upmanship between states and federal persuasions. The losers in all of this are us.
The economic argument will be mute when the virus has taken hold of most of the populated areas. When this happens the businesses will never recover. The need for travel about the country in a RV is purely for recreation in the majority of cases.
The lockdown we experienced in Qld when this virus became evident actually worked and people that were travelling just stayed where they were. The numbers in Qld got down to zero but political and media pressure ruined that. The movement of people on aircraft other means are in the most cases unnecessary as well. This has been proven by our most recent case of the 3 girls who arrived back in Qld, lied on their entrance papers and now have interfered with the day to day operation of half of Brisbane.
This virus can be carried for a period of two weeks without symptoms and this only makes everything even more difficult.
Your question of how long may be directly related to wether we can get this number in a state down to zero and then only permit travel with that state or even area or suburb. I know that this will be difficult but the alternative will not be pretty in the end. This method actually worked in Qld until the borders were relaxed. Businesses reopened and all who were in Qld could travel about freely. This included people from all over Aus that were isolated in Qld.
When the borders opened and even just prior to them initially closing there were people travelling in vans and RVs who were coming in and openly boasting of how they cheated their way through the border.
You are correct, most travellers arent irresponsible morons but as has been evident even this week, some are. Some just feel that they are self entitled and some are just downright cheats, liars and irresponsible people.
Lockdowns work, closed borders work, masks and other methods including social distancing and coughing into your elbow are helpful but not the way to bring the figures down to zero.
Stay put stay safe, and help to prevent the spread of the ChinaVirus.

Angie

Stephcote if that were true and we knew exactly where all those 200 positive people were then travel wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately those 200 are only the ones they have found so far - how many in the community have now become carriers and either don't have symptoms or don't bother to be tested when they do ? If people stopped whinging about the controls that are in place and just followed the rules then the time that we have restrictions may be reduced. We live just outside the Greater Sydney area and at the moment we don't have the same travel restrictions but I believe that this will change in the next couple of weeks. The Hunter is a popular short stay destination for people coming from Sydney and last week we saw the virus brought into Port Stephens and East Maitland from that area. If we do end up having restrictions put on us then we will just have to wait it out until the spike is back under control - we are also in the higher risk category and are not that interested in rolling the dice..

Unfortunately there is 185 travellers that were trusted to self isolate but now are missing.
I have heard reliable reports of caravanners that have told blatant lies to get across the border into Qld.
These people are really in the same class as those three girls but they drove in and didnt fly in.
The old observation of people who tell lies is that they need a good memory as the stories that they have told varies depending on to whom they are speaking. In any case their border passes have been approved but it will only take one caravanner to be found to have the virus and most of us can forget RV travel. A lie is a lie regardless of wether you have the virus or not.
The situation that this country is in has brought out the worst in some people.

I have said it before somewhere that I had spoken to many with vans hooked up as they headed north out of VIC before the VIC/NSW border closed and many, with attitude, said they were going to hang around north NSW until that border opened and would say and do anything to get across.
I just hope the QLD borders close again and they are trapped though a long hot and wet summer.
Stay at home. It's not hard. You don't need a pilots licence or rocket degree to understand that.

I can only answer this question, for myself, and not for others
If I am in a hot spot, and the health authorities advise to stay home, then I shall stay home, for as long as it takes
In February/March or thereabouts, the health advise was for my area, to be restricted in our West Australia region area, about 150 kilometres radius, I followed that advise, for as long as it took
At the moment the health advise for Western Australia, is not to leave the State, I shall follow this, for as long as it takes
If the virus is still around in 1 or 2 years with no cure are you still happy to stay home.
Yes I will be, as it will mean to me, that someone is looking after my health, and I shall be grateful to them

The answer to your question is in the detail of many comments above. If we all lock down genuinely and bring the virus under control then we can travel. We are an island, it can not be that hard.
If people do not travel or even go out of their homes or in some of our cases vans and rvs unnecessarily, then the virus becomes controlled.
We need to point out more examples.
There was a large outbreak in Burnie in Tas in March /April and the authorities locked the entire district down immediately. The virus was brought under control in a matter of weeks, the area was reopened and their lives went on with reasonable normality. TAS is an island as is Australia, how simple is a lockdown.
NT locked their borders and all but essential businesses at the first signs of Covid and the territorians lives went on with reasonable normality.
WA ditto to the above.
SA a close following of the above.
QLD was also similar where the whole state was locked down and once again, within weeks had the virus under control.
Victoria, well I dont think the stupidity that has taken place there even deserves a comment, but we do know that there have been little to no restrictions and the restrictions that have been in place have not been policed with authority.
NSW unfortunately, is a similar model of Victoria.
If those two rogue states had locked down properly and enforced the rulings then at this very time we may all be travelling within our states and of those businesses not completely relying on overseas travel would be operating, be it in some examples within a smaller micro economy.
Now lets go to the other end of the spectrum. QLD had locked down and was operating quite normally after the virus was under control but unfortunately the borders were opened again. Not only were they opened but they were opened to the two states that had made little to no attempt to control the virus. The results of this are now obvious.
Because of this QLD is for example, open to the folk from SA so a SA family can potentially enter QLD pick up the virus and then carry it back into SA which is currently Covid free.
Interstate travellers are telling lies to cross borders, people who are in self isolation or quarantine have bolted and cant be found and many just think it wont happen to them or their family. If travel and movement is banned then these situations either become no existent or are much easier policed.
I find it extremely disappointing that us retired Australians just cant go wherever we want to in our country but as I said above, the reason for this travel is mainly recreational.
This situation does affect almost all of us in some way. Rob has a milestone birthday in a few weeks and our children can not travel or arent game to travel to celebrate with him. This is annoying but nowhere near as annoying if one of them caught the chinavirus while travelling. These same children can not come to visit their elderly grandmother in a nursing home. She is ninety two years of age. Our personal situation is upsetting but when put into perspective the inconvenience is a small one if everyone did the right thing and JUST STAYED HOME AND DID NOT TRAVEL until this virus is under control.
Victoria and NSW are in big trouble due to their lack of real action. QLD wont be far behind them if the state is not locked down AGAIN. Closing to some and not others only invites people to skirt the requirements of entry.
To summarise Stephcott, permitting travel while the chinavirus is not contained WILL spread the virus. The quicker we all lock down and get this contained then the quicker we all can safely travel. We need strong leaders through all of this.

Angie

I feel for you as I feel for most who are at the moment, unable to travel.
You are possibly from the Sydney area which now has a border crossing ban into Qld. This ban is placed on your area for a reason.
You asked the question of when do we think that you can travel again and to put it simply, I would assume that travel will be permitted again when the offending state Premiers stop whinging on how they cant cross borders and actually do something constructive in their respective states as far as a lockdown is concerned which will then reduce the Covid numbers to a manageable level. The fact that other states dont have many cases is not an excuse to open the borders and allow an influx of potentially infected people.
Just look at current figures, most of the cases are being spread in hotels bars clubs and restaurants in the two offending states. Here would be a good place to start for the offending states Premiers to address.
I am sorry your holidays are wasted but it is, after all, recreation.

that is a proactive action trying to prevent something happening, before it happens, not trying to fix it after it happens .we had this virus pretty much under control then everyone wanted everything to open at once putting their wallets ahead of health. now it will probable cost a lot more if the rest of the country goes the way of victoria

I just hope the QLD borders close again and they are trapped though a long hot and wet summer.
Stay at home. It's not hard. You don't need a pilots licence or rocket degree to understand that.
Keep Safe out there everyone.
I dont disagree with anything that people have said, and you are right the world is full of morons and we are seeing the worst in peoples attitude, bu if the virus is still around in 1 or 2 years with no cure are you still happy to stay home.

The only outbreak in Qld is those 2 local girls who travelled to Victoria and returned illegally, but no worries Ill cancel my holidays Ive waited 12 months for and take my coronavirus free body back to work and wait another 6 months or so until I can get holidays again.
Enjoy YOUR time in Qld.
Cheers

Yes, but I'm sure it is tougher for some.
Well, we didn't raise Spit Bridge quick enough!
A Covid case at The Bavarian restaurant Manly Wharf. So I won't be walking down there anymore. Will avoid it like the plague!
the way things are going in a year or two, all the people who are going to die will most likely be dead. so it will only be the younger people suffering the long term effects of the virus that will be left . if your still alive you will most likely be able to travel where ever you want

A bit like the Tulip Crash.
A few years earlier there was a plague, the old people died & the young inherited all this money & didn't know what to do with it. Tulips looked like a good idea, then it was the "Emperor's Clothes" or rather lack thereof!
It is a shame he did not do this two weeks ago.
