The fossil fuel industry has a limited lifetime now. All those that have made trillions of $'s off it realise this and will suck as much as they can out of consumers in the time they have left. Will use every excuse, every occurrence, any reason at all to raise and keep the price of their product as high as they can, they know we need it. They love the Russians, how much more they making because of them. If its not the Russians it will be someone or something else. Expect to continue to pay more, and more for petrol and diesel till you buy your first alternative powered car.

I'm lucky in that I don't have to go anywhere much, I can just stay home and not use much unless I choose to. I don't know how people who must travel can afford it. I paid $50-odd dollars today for HALF a tank. Filling a tank repeatedly would cost a bomb.

A few days ago I bought $223 of 98 before it goes up. Probably to about $253.
In the scheme of things, only $30.

And this same ransom wont be held against us when we are all driving electric vehicles. Those in charge of this new power supply can see already that as Australians we are willing to pay to get around our large country.
They will still be providers of fuel, the government will still want their cut, and we will still need private transport in Australia mainly due to the size of our island.
This is why we should not have been listening to these zealots who think that closing power stations and buying electric cars will miraculously lift the perpetual pollution smog from China India and some other countries.
We in Australia will not only never fix this problem but we will end up a third world country trying.

I thought he spoke some sense.
What part of your train of thought actually thinks that once all these eV s are running around that those refuelling them wont want maximum profit on their return investment?
Do you really believe that those in power of our country will forego the tax and excise that they have been collecting since the inception of the Model T because everyone with an EV needs a break?
Do you find it outrageous that those who dont agree with you actually provide their view?
Do you believe that you and some others should be able to post their views openly and without opposing comment from those who may not agree?
Do you find any negative comment about EVs touches a nerve with you as you have one?
If you own or rely on shares for income then you will be the reason any supplier of fuel of any kind or any public business for that matter will maximise their profit at every opportunity.
A naysayer is not actually a naysayer when he speaks the truth.

With higher fuel prices maybe retirees will take shorter trips & stay in places longer.
They might even really get to know these places instead of driving thru them & saying that they've been to them.
Travel is about experiences, not burning fuel.
Some of them might even get out of their cars & go for a walk.

In fact it is a pic that formed part of a meme but Yobarr edited it for me to use as an avatar. See the avatar topic.

You have to laugh at those that are moaning at the current prices of fuel... Now is one of the cheapest times to travel.. Come September there is going to be a twenty one cent jump in the price of fuel per litre .. Now I have to put in a bit more effort to travel and enjoy the wildflower season in a more northerly direction.. One thing that I have noticed is that the camper trailer style traveller are finding out just how cold it is ... compared to the heat from my diesel heater billowing out of the caravan door ... Another fuel which does not seemed to have rated any comments. Is the price of LPG. If that keeps jumping I may have to think about shorter showers.

Thanks Mark. Since this thread was started I have been sitting back chuckling to myself at how some people cant understand inflation, and cant do their own maths. If you compare the price of petrol in 1982 and the average wage in that year, with the price of petrol in 2022 and the average wage now, the figures are within 2% of one another. Now I will have to research the important stuff such as how beer prices compare over the same 40 years. Perhaps members could find something relevant to bleat about? If you cant afford the fuel, you cant afford the car. Stay home. Cheers
