I dont think anyone wishes any traveller misfortune. I dont think Robe, the dozens of other places, or local, state or federal Governments wish them ill. All are doing their level best to make the right decisions for their communities first, and the travelling community next. They have never faced something like this before. Can you honestly say you wouldnt want your local shire or council to look after your interests first?
That said, no one has said they are going to abandon any sick people on the battlefield, only that there may be better places to get to for support for the long term.
You talk about mateship, well that did a lot for many country towns recently didnt it, when the mates from the cities visited and locust cleared their shops, when it takes so much longer for them to get restocked! So yes, I can see why they are saying there are more appropriate spots to hunker down.
As Mariner 30 says, as the days progress, those who do feel they want to boycott those they feel abandoned travellers at this time will have plenty of places to choose from to boycott, and may in the end find they are staying at home, as they have nowhere to travel.
Lets hope the world gets this under control sooner rather than later, and the lessons learned from this can be used to make next time better.
