Can I have a kick too?
Leave the boat, trailer and motor behind, hire a fishing charter, better chance of catching fish.

Got a better idea- look for a inflatable canoe. Perhaps electric powered prop.
And Im being serious.
The guys here are experienced in this topic of towing weights. Sadly asking such a question that you wonder what your chances are to breaking the law is naive. Please understand the seriousness of your question in terms of safety of all road users.
Welcome anyway.

The problem with forums is that most/many posts are not long and detailed enough. As a result folks jump up and down without all the details. To the OP, make sure you add all the details next post.
FWIW I'm a strong believer in the authorities having random stops along the highway for weight tests. Don't yell at me but there are many many Old and Greys on the road. If it fits in or on it's ok. No it's not. Time to clean up the subject once and for all with some serious penalties for blatant breaches.

Grey...it is unfortunate that you seem to have taken offence that nobody on here condones your apparent intention to travel in an overloaded vehicle, provided the penalties were not "too much".After you provided details of your car, good advice was given regarding its shortcomings, but we are yet to receive details about your van,so we cannot provide further assistance. As BGT suggests,a more detailed initial post would have helped, but you can be confident that all members who have contributed to this thread have done so with only good intentions. Always,we are happy to help. Cheers.

So Grey,
As an exercise, load your van and car for the trip, with boat etc all on board. Then take it to a weighbridge and see what it actually weighs.
If it is under your weights, take it away and enjoy it, and you have created a lot of angst towards yourself for no reason with your opening post.
If it is over your weights either 1) don't take it, or 2) work out what can be left behind to weigh under your weights.
Unfortunately they are the only options. To overload your unit is illegal, to unknowingly overload is also inconsiderate, and to knowingly overload is also inconsiderate and selfish.
It is no good turning things back on others if you post looking for some form of approval to only break the law a little bit. That really is worthy of

We spent a couple of months in the Kimberley for several years in a row.
We went fishing most days and exploring the islands on many others. This is the only way to see the Kimberley coast. I would not spend that time up there without a boat.
And a 12ft tinny with 15hp outboard is the absolute minimum.
No way you would get me in a canoe with crocs.
These are croc tracks from during the night where we launch the boats. Our camp spot was 15m behind where the pic was taken.
The blue lines on the map below are our GPS tracks.
This is a 4.2m "Mac" with 70hp outboard. We towed it with the OKA due west from Brisbane via Alice Springs and Marble Bar to Kalumburu and back to Brisbane via Mt Isa.
Does anyone know the $$$ cost / fines for being over loaded with your Car And Van in various states.
I want to take my Aluminium Dingy / Fold up Trailer, and outboard motor along on our next trip.
If its too much, I will rethink it.

For that Im Very Very Sorry. That you have taken my words and twisted them to fit the way you write.
I have a lot to contribute with my knowledge to share with all of you.

So can I rewright the Above, And if It still comes out the same way. Then I can't write, What I am trying to say.

If its too much _WEIGHT__ (my train of through) I will rethink it.
Does this make sense. I left out the word Weight in my sentence.
I only wanted to know If I were over by the lower end. what would be the fine.
Im not a bad bloke, as some have marked me off as been.
Writing and spelling is not my best subject at best of times. But I want To have a go.

Mate, you don't seem to get it. People are trying to help you in saying that the FINE you might get is the least of your worries and is IRRELEVANT, it is the overwhelming financial cost if you have an accident, are found to be overweight and your insurance is void. Or how about getting charged with CULPABLE driving if you kill someone whilst KNOWINGLY driving an overweight vehicle.... I would heed the advice given here and not reject it as having a go at you.

Jim, first of all you are welcome in here mate. Nobody wanted to make you feel bad, but equally, no one twisted your words either. We simply read your post as you had written it and clearly we all drew the same conclusion.
I still wouldn't suggest pushing your load to being even slightly over though, it's dangerous and you would be fined if picked up. Doesn't matter how much the fine is in my view, the over weight situation would be more concerning, plus your insurer would be totally unforgiving in the event of an accident. Why not load up and hit the weighbridge as others have suggested, then adjust accordingly.
As always, the more information you post in a question, the less confusion there will be!
Have a good evening.

We were in Francois Peron NP for a few days, there were some people fishing for a few days using 2 boats, carrying fuel & other items back & forth. They said they had no luck for days. They finally packed up, boats on trailers & left.
A person on the beach with a hand line about 20 minutes later caught a fish about 55cm long. We all had a good laugh!

Yes it reads better.
Ive built 2 caravans and it was a steep learning curve- what made it steeper was feeling intimidated when facing much more experienced folk.
The real reason for several to lecture you is the statistics- that of out of control rigs caused mainly by overweight and/or poor weight distribution. youtube videos highlight this.
Following your very sincere apology Im sure most will reset and enjoy your company.
We arent so bad either.

Too much weight, although my van rig is only 1630kg loaded( weighbridge weight at full load), and have a true Pathfinder that can carry 3000 kg, , but that is not the point I am trying to make, will be changing to a Avan, or a teardrop in the next 12 months, and getting rid of my Pathy and buying something smaller, but that can legally tow, either of these type of campers. I am after lighter campers, and less stuff to lug along. Currently everybody takes the kitchen sink, and I am one of them slightly, but we Need to go back to the simple life, and it is much cheaper in running costs as well. Do you people really need all this stuff, do you use it every day, if not don't take it.. A friend of mine and his wife when they tour ( nomads as well ) they take a full cabin boat and their big caravan, on their trips, but take two vehicles, and talk to each other on a private selcall channel, like I do with him every now and then, whilst they are travelling,, yes it is a bit more money in costs, but he is doing it the sensible way. Why not take an extra vehicle instead, or get a truck like has been suggested. I am not critisising you though, because of the way you asked the question the second time sounds better.

Cupid, the only weights I could find in my last Patrol (GU 4.2LTDi) was the GVM on the plate on the fire wall. In my case it was 3040kg. The other referred to the ball weight & was located on the small rear door - mentioning the reductions in ball weight for vans over 2000kg. Yes it was rated to tow 3,500kg but with reduced ball weight. There was no mention of GCW. I was led to believe at the time that referred to commercial vehicles only.
Old and Grey, I would suggest that you investigate the cost of hiring (If that is possible) a powered boat in the locations you wish to visit - or go out on fishing tours. One thing to remember is that some fish limits refer to "fish in your possession" ie fish you may have in your fridge, freezer as well as those you caught in the boat "today". I know hiring's not a perfect solution but it saves a lot of mucking around.
If you're heading our way & further north, I'd be very wary of using a small boat in case you meet a big lizard with lots of strength, many teeth & with no fear of humans. Fortunately they would be mainly sunning out on mud banks from now on.
I did wonder on reading your first message that you were equal to myself ie a "stirrer of the pot" just to see how many "fish" you caught!
whenarewethere, sometimes that works but often fishoes in a boat get more than someone on land - and it's generally easier to get your snagged lures back in a boat.

Personally I believe the OP asked the wrong question to start with as the actual issue is not the size of the fine.
Subsequent posts have been constructive criticism.
The approach is not to work backwards from a fine, but from the opposite direction with numbers for weights.

It is not that easy to seek forgiveness Mike.
First of all you must kneel before the altar of the weight distribution hitch whilst the choir of generators play in the background and then you must immediately attend and remain in a caravan park that is charging too much for at least seven days.
Only then will the assembled holy men hear your plea.
