One State is out of control wth the virus, the others are not?
There has to be a reason, either mis-management or, Victorians are a different breed with a completely different culture....it has to be one, which one is it?
Wizard, may I assure you there is no empirical evidence to suggest that the people of Victoria are a different breed to the rest of the country!
To gather evidence would mean asking questions that the loony left, greens, and conspiracy theorists would be offended by, (Melbourne seems to have more than it's share of them) and we wouldn't want that, would we?

I first went to Melbourne in 1970, for a family wedding
Since that time, I have only drove through, or around that city
I do have friends on the outskirts of Melbourne, and I find Melbourne/Victoria people no different than anyone else
I feel that it was pure luck, that Covid-19 jumped from quarantine to the general population, (regardless of how it jumped), in Melbourne
It could easily have been Perth/Darwin/Adelaide/Brisbane/Sydney, where the virus broke out
I feel for my Victorian friends, in lockdown, and commend them for doing the right thing, and slowly eliminating the spread of the virus
Unfortunately as we all know, (or at least I know), that there are always the few irresponsible people, who spoil it for the many
In Perth (where there are no lockdowns), today they have a mob of protesters, protesting against the lockdowns, in sympathy with Victoria
Some of these protesters seem to think, that it is some sort of conspiracy, by the authorities, to stop normal people going about their business, or words to that effect
Some protesters (in Perth), are saying that unless we open the borders, business will never get back on its feet, or words to that effect
To the best of my knowledge, the only business suffering in Western Australia, are the ones who need interstate/international tourist
All other business in Western Australia, are doing OK, and will probably assist the rest of the country, out of the economic recession
In my immediate family, (working age), I have 2 daughters, 2 fine son-in-laws, 2 grandchildren and their spouses, all working

When all this is 'done & dusted' Tony, it remains to be seen if ALL business's, except tourism, are doing fine in any State and that includes WA...personally, I strongly doubt it, I do not believe that any single State of Australia is self sustainable and at the end of the day, the chickens must surely come home to roost and things may be a lot tougher that many believe.
WA is very fortunate to have a substantial mining industry that is still in full flight, without that, the State would be in deep 'you know what', similar to the others.!

I mainly agree with what you say, Wizardofoz
I was trying to point out, (I am not known as a scribe), that the small number of irresponsible people, are in every single State/Territory, and not just in Victoria, therefore Victorians, should not be singled out, as the virus could have jumped from quarantine, in any of our major cities
I was also trying to point out, that the reason I think that those protesting to open up the WA borders are irresponsible, is because we (in WA,) will be no better off, with an open border, apart from the lack of tourists, while the borders are closed
I do not enjoy what could look like spreading doom and gloom, but I am a bit on the realistic side
We know that Governments (ours and worldwide), have borrowed money, to suppress this Covid-19 virus
One day in the not so distant future, this money will have to be repaid, my gut feeling is that we shall be looking at being taxed a lot more, one way or another
One area which may not be able to absorb more taxes, are the smaller businesses, especially those which have no or little financial buffer

Just ONE example of the state of bungling in Vic from today's Fin Review,
"Yet the key reason it has taken so long for Victorias numbers to come down with another 63 cases reported on Sunday is that Victorias public health system of testing and contact tracing has been far inferior to that in NSW.
The Premier never concedes this point despite his lengthy daily press conferences."
I also wonder how much of this continuing lockdown will affect the travel industry into the medium to long term, ie caravan parks and all those who cater for our needs on the road. They must be hurting so much and no end in sight with the announcements yesterday from the Vic Premier.

Indeed, it's just a bad situation getting worse.
Heard on 3aw this morning the Vic govt has invested in a new hi-tech platform to manage testing and contact tracing, it began only last week. No fanfare, it was slipped in under the radar. Where was it months ago when we needed it? We can take this as an indirect admission that the system thus far has been ineffective, many pundits have been calling it third world in standard. How can any of the data to date be trusted.
The 'road to nowhere' released yesterday is so convoluted. It lacks in detail, has impossible targets and people are understandably confused. A target average of zero new cases for at least one month is required before any of the proposed real easing in November. On that basis, all the other states would be in total lockdown right now. It's ridiculous.
The anger level in Victoria this morning is palpable if those who have queued to call in on the radio so far today is anything to go by. We already know that many businesses, especially in retail and hospitality won't recover with these extensions, and many more jobs will disappear for good. This was clearly reinforced by the Retailers Assoc CEO this morning. With no end in sight the knock on effects on mental health are becoming very scary indeed.

You have said what was on my mind thomas01.
As a Melbournite it is better to stay safe than to get the disease and infect others, perhaps fatally.
Ease the restrictions and see the death toll rise - witness the USA - their population is about 15 times Australia's, the death toll there is about 250 times Australia's.
Assigning blame does nothing to eradicate the disease, only restrictions and safe practices will do that.

Well, I'll try, but it's only how I decipher what the premier tells us so don't shoot the messenger or my interpretation!
He basically said we need to achieve targets based on a maximum 'daily average' of x number of new transmissions for a defined period leading up to the next stage of easing restrictions. The maximum allowable 'daily average' keeps decreasing at each stage until the final one, which is zero daily for 28 days after which we have freedom, in theory. He applied the 'daily average' parameter to each stage, regardless of the final one being zero value. Told you it was convoluted.
Zero is zero. Full stop. It's political BS like this that "thinking" folks get pissed off with. Sorry I used a naughty word. But for heavens sake how stupid do they think the population is? Maybe I don't want that answer.

Agree.
Covid just keeps popping up around Sydney. It wouldn't take much to get out of hand.
Around Manly area, empty shops, restaurants, factories. In our local shopping centres (too many, that's another story & also part of the problem), they are trying to hide that dead look.
We normally have tourists from overseas & other parts of Sydney & Australia.
The media is carrying on ad nauseam about Victoria. It's dead in other places.
