Most questions arise like this when one can only appreciate ones own boots.... and not imagining walking in anothers. Personally, I retired early (48yo).... saved with that goal in mind.... so was fiscally conservative in regard to spending as a proportion of our income in the 20 years leading up to then.... but 10 years later with maybe 20 years to live..... we have 50 years of money... so ..... what the heck.... can't take it with you.

I thought this topic might have been about the benefits of purchasing a more expensive vehicle such as more years service and greater reliability contrasted against a cheaper price and less years service and reliability.
It seems to have invited mainly comments about how hard one has worked, how much one has saved, how many assets one has acquired and general grandstanding.
All we need is a soundtrack to accompany it, perhaps Sinatra singing "My Way" would be fitting.

First line from op
" I cannot, for the life of me see where, one can afford vehicle's at these prices"

I should have been shot for wasting that money and then some, on a b....y car.
Might I respectfully suggest that if someone spends their money on something that gives them enjoyment, then that money most certainly has not been wasted? Cheers

Instead of a car, maybe new carpet & a bathroom might give one more enjoyment!

If you could just show me where to fit the towbar to my new carpet that would be great.
