Those people who died put their lives on the line for their country. All you have to do is to roll up your sleeve and take a jab. Just remember that the choice you make affects all of us, not just you.

It's been said many times but I'll give it another go.
We all need to get vaccinated as soon as possible to beat SARS-CoV2. It really annoys me that people who want to wait for some indeterminate time for more proof than the experts can provide, tell everybody else that that's what they are doing. Just keep quite and let the sensible people be heard.

Get vaccinated/don't get vaccinated. AZ/Pfizer. Individual's choice.
Me? I got the AZ, 2nd jab today (a week late, but still). I had COVID way back when it first broke. It was not fun (I only found out I had it months after I had it - GP did the antibody test when I presented with puzzling 'symptoms' with no clear cause). I was super fit and I got very, very ill.
I have low blood pressure and I don't clot well (medical condition) so I figured I was right with AZ (5 doctors, including my son, agreed). So I took the plunge.
I am not going to get into a blue over my choice. Or anyone else's choice. It's the business of each individual to do what they feel is best.
And yes, it is possible I have some 'natural immunity' due to having had COVID-19 already. But I am taking as few chances as possible, ta very much.
When it comes to COVID-19, the harm reduction strategy that is vitally important for this country to open up to the rest of the world is to achieve a sufficiently high level of vaccine coverage. Unlike the situation for HIV, we have great vaccines that (even with the emergence of mutant SARS-CoV-2 strains) are protecting against the development of severe disease and death. Still, no matter how effective a vaccine may be in preventing symptoms, overall efficacy is clearly dependent on achieving a sufficiently high level of community coverage. With COVID-19, we should see clear evidence of herd immunity once 70-80% of the population is vaccinated.
Among relatively informed people, the clotting issue with the AstraZeneca vaccine plus the lack of availability of thePfizerBioNTech alternative has clearly impacted negatively on vaccine uptake. In Victoria at least, that negative trend has been substantially reversed since the virus outbreaks related to the Kappa, then Delta SARS-CoV-2 variants have led to a further lockdown. With virus active in the community, people who are generally aware think in terms of relative risk and come to the obvious conclusion that the equation is clearly weighted in the direction of being vaccinated as soon as possible with whatever is available.
............ As with any communication all interactions should, so far as thats possible, be based in understanding, trust and mutual respect. In general, thats also a good message for civil society.

Cupie,
Another one of my great unanswered questions. The Doherty Institute, who or what is it.?
Generally, when I have looked into organisations with Institute in their names, they have been not for profit organisations that are largely Lobby Groups. They are groups of people who have the same aims or beliefs who do research into certain subjects generally with the aim of coming up with certain answers to support whatever they are lobbying about.

Got a surprise, this morning at 9am, my doctor rang and apologised to me for blowing me up over the covid thing, and agreed that I will only be getting the Pfizer. He reinterated it to the Govt., that certain patients he has cannot have the AZ vaccine for health reasons, so I am on a waiting list with 19 of his other patients to get the Pfizer, as soon as he gets it. He said, he told the govt., he couldn't risk his patients lives, just because some non medical government employee says, that AZ is safe for all over 40's regardless of their individual health conditions.

So very true Jontee,
It is pretty obvious that the naysayers have not lost a loved one or have the need to visit a nursing home or an elderly parent of friend.
I am so glad Australia wasn't so full of anti this and anti that idiots, back when my parents had to decide about vaccinations for, measles, mumps, tuberculosis, small pox, chicken pox, diphtheria, polio, whooping cough and there are probably more.
Maybe if the parents of some on this forum were anti vaxxers then those of us that care about our fellow countrymen would not be subject to this negativity.
What annoys me more than their decision not to accept a vaccination for this disease is that they all still expect just to wander freely in our society contracting and spreading the virus with reckless abandon.
In this day of internet search engines forums and social media are a growing number of people who find a need to go against anything of displaying any common sense or practical reasoning.
I know this post will be bombarded with anti comments but amongst them all take the time to think about our countys population gaining herd immunity.
Herd Immunity cant happen in a timely manner if the majority of the population aren't inoculated.
I find it sadly amusing that no one refuses a small pox vaccination when they want to travel to certain overseas countries even though the side affects are in many ways similar.
Many hundreds of thousands of people each year in this country line up for a flu vaccine that changes yearly to suit different strains even though the side affects can be similar in many ways.
I had the first course of AZ and I had the same affects as when I get a flue shot. This is how it works because you are given a shot of the virus so as your body builds the antibodies which gives you the defence against the disease. To my knowledge all vaccinations work in a very similar way.
So to all the naysayers, harden up and protect yourself and others or hold your comments to yourselves if you feel the need to be negative to those of us that care about our fellow countrymen and wish to talk about it in this topic.

Hi Mike, I don't think it is a condition or information that I require in relation to AZ as I have made my mind up in relation to that product. Having an aged mother in care that I visit every couple of days, I was very mindful from the outset as to what could happen if this virus found its way into her facility. I remember listening to the experts both here and overseas early last year when they were discussing a vaccine. They all held the same view that a vaccine would be at least six to twelve months away with further testing needed over maybe two to three years before it was deemed safe. Within a few short months we had politicians in Australia telling us all about AZ and being first in line. I wondered about this and waited for further information. What followed really astounded me. When the first issues started to arise with blood clotting I was surprised that all the deflection was being done by politicians and their advisors. One would have thought that a representative from AZ would have been front and centre explaining the concerns but not a word. The next concern I had was motor mouth having his photo taken using the Pfizer and not the AZ. The next concern I had was the USA and its Food and Drug Authority not allowing AZ to be used. That is still their position and they are giving their AZ away to poorer nations. The next thing that concerned me was the need for the Government to have a waiver of liability to themselves, AZ manufactures and now GPs. This means limited or in fact no liability if it proves to be harmful. The next concern I had was that the European Union in opening up only recognises AZ manufactured in Britain, not our one here. The final nail was the Government's total refusal to release any information whatsoever in relation to the terms of contract between them and AZ and its release and liabilities labelling it as "national security".
I have read some of the evangelical ravings of some of the posters on this forum where they take on their crusade calling me an anti vaxer, which I am not. I have had all my necessary ones over the years plus quite a few they wouldn't have had due to some of the regions of the world I visited. The simple answer is that I don't trust politicians, especially the ones we have at present, dictating to me as to my health requirements. If the vaccine is so wonderful and without side effects then those who have chosen to accept it have nothing to worry about from lepers such as myself. They are now immune, can't pass it on (according to them) and all deserve out eternal gratitude. The fact that someone equates feeling OK a few days after having any treatment is a promise of no issues in the future just beggars belief in my opinion.
As to whether I have a different vaccine in the future will depend on the circumstances. If I need it for travel or to visit my mum then I will but it will not be AZ. People can do what they like, they can have twenty doses of AZ, that is their business but I will not be lectured by those dullards as to what medical advice I follow.
Hope is all well with you in the high country and thanks for your concern. I think you have a very sensible outlook in things that matter.

Mike, I am confused if I include your original post in this topic with your post immediately above however I do assume that you have done your own assessment and accepted current advice from medical professionals and drug manufacturers before you had the vaccination.
My assessment of the getting of the vaccination was done by research from the manufacturers and from health advice from my own doctor and other doctors and their appropriate bodies. I did not care to recognise anything that was spruked by politicians.
I do believe that in the US there exists a group of scare mongers similar to what we have in Australia but the difference is that their comments are mainly related to the Pfizer vaccine. Oh!
Oh! The power of social media..
The success in overseas countrys since the covid vaccination was introduced is testament to its success and it is early days.
Regards
Rob
