I really emphasise with the hard working truckies of Oz. My hubby was one of them. We are also vanners with a serious amount of kilometres on the clock. We just want all road users to be patient, considerate and caring. I want to return froma great trip to tell my grandies all about our amazing country.

Truck drivers , Bullies on wheels,
Hi Peter
You have had a bad experience on the road but the majority of truck drivers are decent people just trying to earn a living.Im sure everyone on this forum has had a DH truck driver but I have had many more DH car and caravan drivers who just want to wreck your day..
You are just going to have to move on with life and face a few facts if you are say driving at 90 km an hour and trucks are travelling at 95 km an hour they are going to sit on your ass it is always going to happen.
Most truck drivers like yobarr has said are already planning well in advance to overtake you and can get very annoyed when the vehicle wants to speed up during the takeover.
I personally like trucks in front of me so I can sit back and enjoy the scenery without seeing Kenworth in my mirrors and regularly check for them.I rarely have a problem with trucks and adjust my driving speed when one is behind me .They are not going take a risk but they do appreciate it if you let them pass by backing of a bit or calling them up on the cb .When they pass and give you the truckers thank you which is the extra indicator done twice it does make you feel better as we are in there workspace and we are on holidays safe travels.
Cheers

Well I guess that I will have my two pennorth on this. Having travelled extensively over this great land both as a caravanner and a truck driver, When towing the van I have never, yes I said never, had a truck sit close on my clacker. The ones that I have encountered, (and thats a lot) will sit back some way and wait for a suitable time to overtake. Sitting back enables them to see better down the road and pick their time to pass. I always hold my speed steady and I always let them know that I am aware. You may say that, as an ex truckie, I am biased. not so, I can see both sides of this topic.
Of course there are bad eggs in every basket and I feel for those of you who have had a bad experience but to lump all truck drivers together as bullies is a slur on the 99.9% of hardworking guys and gals who are trying to make a dollar in a very competitive market. By all means make your views known that is what this forum is about, but please refrain from wild unsubstantiated claims which cannot be proved. Just be fair in your comments!

Really mate, you need to take a real good look at yourself and have a good think about your attitude while on the road.
I, too, have driven millions of kilometres both in heavy vehicles and cars towing various trailers and my observations are that when in a truck and become close to the rear of a light vehicle, the driver of that light vehicle has slowed for no apparent reason.
Driving heavy vehicles certainly reveals a lot about the extremely poor driving habits of some car drivers and in particular those towing caravans.
Many with a van in tow have little experience with towing and to be honest they are actually scared.
They are scared when large vehicles come toward them and slow down.
They fear crossing bridges and slow down.
They fear larger vehicles following them and dont know wether to speed up or slow down, but you can bet your thingoes that they will do one or the other as those doing all of this have little idea of the consequences of their irrational driving.
Once one of these *drivers* has done his slowing down he then speeds up for what reason most of us dont understand.
He finds delight in speeding up when we hit the three lane so no one passes him, after all he is entitled to lead the conga line that he has created.
As has been said, the truck has a good vision of traffic travelling in the same direction. He anticipates the areas where he may safely pass but in reality we have an orid with a van in tow, a CB radio which makes him think he know more about driving than the truck driver and with his lack of training and experience is out there causing havoc and then blaming the driver with all the experience.
Orid, you arent as good as you may think you are.
Stop and take a breath and think about what you are doing to create your statement of all truck drivers being bullies.

I have to agree, a very honest respectful post.
There are bad drivers on the road, we have all seen them and no doubt some are on this forum, fact
There are even bad truck drivers, I have encountered a few over my 50yrs of driving, but very few to be honest. But to be also honest, boy I have done some stupid things on the road and I think it would be safe to say MOST of us probably have.
It appears the experience Orid had has had a big impact on his opinions on truckies, you could hardly blame him for this.
Yobarrr maybe you could engage your brain before posting next time, Orids experience no doubt real, show a bit of compassion and respect for HIS experience, just for once next time.
Orid, you did not need to justify or apologise to Yobarr, you get used to him, "after a while". PS : I think he is related to RD above
stay safe on the roads, everone!

Hi Wanda,
I thought you werent going to read my posts any more.
Last you wrote you reconned that MH and I were related.
I am so flattered that you continue to read my input.
Yobarr and I are not related and we, at times, disagree with each other but we both have a work history around the operation of heavy vehicles and while you may not be happy how we or anyone else involved in the trucking industry, describe how thing happen in the real world.
As do most other truck operators I resent being labelled a bully and I have a right of reply.
Both Magnarc and traveltoungers posts were productive and excellent, the very basic situations that I described in my post above are just saying it as it is.
If a member reads what I said, and my comments make him or her think about what they are doing when towing their van around trucks, then that is good, isnt it??

Law unto them selves

This quote from him in an above post is interesting to say the least.
What a crock of $hit.
Orid, needs to assess his attitude when driving and consider the consequences of his selfish and poor driving habits.
also
Travelling in a convoy and talking on his CB on ch 40 as they do regularly might be something that our Orid needs to consider as well. Ch 18 is the caravan channel. Dribbling $hit of their travels on ch 40 or 29 is not illegal but it is not acceptable and unsafe to use those channels.
Many truck drivers will turn their radio down or off after listening to mile upon mile of drivel from the likes of Orid.

But many caravaners an motor homers talk crap on Ch 40 for hour after hour when in convoy. When they are questioned about their radio behaviour they are quick to claim that they have the rite to use that channel.

All you ex Truckies can't believe there are bad eggs out there on the road, a bit like Montie saying all RV dealers are honest.
IMHO I would say most Interstate Truckies (road trains) would be doing the right thing, where as there are some cowboys on the freeways in the cities.
Try going over the West Gate bridge and not get tailgated by a truck or any major freeway or tunnel in any Capital City.
As stated, dipsticks behind the wheel in all sorts of vehicles.

Rob why are you are accusing me of being a bad driver , I do not speed up or slow when a truck or car is looming in my mirror , I will sometimes slow a little once the truck is all the way out on the other lane ,but I will always talk on cb to the other driver to let him or her know, and usually get the answer dont worrry just keep your speed which I do.
I find your comments insulting typical Bully tactics.
I do not sit on channel 40 , in the incident I mentioned , yes my friend and I were on a different channel , l could see the truck behind me was way to close and itching to get past so I was leaving plenty of space in front for him to pass and get in front ,
I changed to channel 40 to let him know As I do most often to let him know that I would pull over when possible , the road was quite busy with veh., coming the opposite way so he was prob very frustated .
Now as I changed channel to 40 the driver was talking to the other truckie in front of us calling me all kinds of c, s and b, s and that we c, s should. Go back to our own state etc etc etc , honestly the guy raving a bit like your post , really I should have not said anything to this Moron ,and I didnt like to interrupt his tirade , but silly me couldnt resist , I asked him why he was calling us all these insulting names, well you would not believe what came out of this guys mouth, which is when I suggested we bothh pull over at the nearest opportunity, and then he did the threat , unlucky for me the road shortly gave him the opportunity to pass , (I did NOT speed up) he passed pulled in sharply with the front part of his rig then pulled straight out again for no reason other than to make the rear trailer to swing into me making me swerve off the road , I dont know to this day how I managed to keep contro((I must be a good driver after all lol)) joke
Anyway my mate didnt hear any of the conversation he was still on the other channel , but his wife saw it in the passenger mirror and thought we were dead as we disappeared in a pile of dust , Eventually l managed to tell the guy we were going to call the cops , which was an idle threat we had no phone! Rob why are you are accusing me of being a bad driver*
Because after what I have read of your antics in this topic, you are!!
* because you are truckie with super powers of knowing how I drive Yes? *
No, As a professional drivers we see this similar road situation on almost a daily basis. We do approx 1000 klms per working day all year long. Remember what I said about your attitude
*l could see the truck behind me was way to close and itching to get past so I was leaving plenty of space in front for him to pass and get in front ,*
Therein is a big part of your problem, travelling in convoy means that truck has to pass you with a van and then consider the lack of skill of the driver in the motorhome in front and wether or not to be able to pass the motor home as well. To offer that extra space in front of you, means you had to slow down. thus creating another problem for the truck driver. The truck loses the momentum he was relying on to SAFELY pass you.
*unlucky for me the road shortly gave him the opportunity to pass , *
As much as I have read and re read this I really cant assess why this would be unlucky to you. After all werent you the good one in assisting the truck driver to pass.
*really I should have not said anything to this Moron ,*
Read back in my posts and note what I said about your attitude.
*Look I dont tarnish every truck driver on this isolated incident *
Actually in this topic you have.
Orid, as I stated earlier, as with thousands of other truck drivers, we see the very situation you described, happening at times, every day we are on the road.
As a professional driver we in the most, learn to tolerate the inadequacies of people like yourself. Having a drivers licence for 50 years does not make you a good driver but more of a driver who has been doing the wrong thing for that long in the belief that you are a good driver.
I take offence at what you said about truck drivers in this post and for that I make no apology just because you group all of us together as bullies does not make you correct and more to the point, it does not make you a good driver.
Change you attitude and your bad habits before venturing out onto the road again. You will be a happier man for it and so will be others around you.
Travelling in a convoy with others and then blaming someone else when an incident looms is at the least, extremely childish.

Well, another intelligent post from a person who seems not to read posts. You claim that at no stage did the poster even say he he was on his CB radio. Perhaps you could explain to us how Peter was able to ask the truckie to pull over so they could "discuss the issue face to face" ? Did he perhaps have a loud-hailer? While you're dreaming up a way to wriggle out of that dilemma, you could also try to explain why Peter says that when he is around trucks,he will "always talk to the other driver ".How would he do that,I wonder? And as for your comment "Yobarr, give it up you are making a fool of yourself, again" you can rest assured that if ever I need help with making a fool of myself,I will PM you. The only way to make fool of yourself on a forum is to post something that is demonstrably incorrect, but I have never yet been shown to be wrong with my assertions. There have been some good posts on this thread, from several sensible people, but certainly not from you.The more that Peter posts about this alleged incident, the more I am starting to believe that some of what he says is true, but often it is very easy to embellish the true in a vain attempt to prove a point. And,believe me,if a truckie wants to send you RSup when he's overtaking you,it is exceedingly easy to do. Have seen it happen twice with lippy motorists, one a caravan in NSW and one a British 4wd in Queensland. Cheers

The reason we highlight some comments and salient points is to draw the attention to those words. It is clear to me,from some of the inane responses that our posts get, that some people look at,but do not actually READ what is written.Your comment that "at no stage did the poster even say he was on his CB radio" is a prime example,as pointed out in my earlier post.As far as Rob and I being mates,in the early months of my membership,we regularly were at loggerheads, but as time has passed, our similarities have become apparent.Who knows, one day I may meet Rob for a chat,as I have done with several other members.Cheers

Because after what I have read of your antics in this topic, you are!!
What antics????
you Therein is a big part of your problem, travelling in convoy means that truck has to pass you with a van and then consider the lack of skill of the driver in the motorhome in front and wether or not to be able to pass the motor home as well. To offer that extra space in front of you, means you had to slow down. thus creating another problem for the truck driver. The truck loses the momentum he was relying on to SAFELY pass you.
Me
This makes no sense , ive said i left plenty of space in front for the following truck to pull in?????????????? and now wwith your super powers you say the friend i was with has no driving skills also ,are you one of the Avengers maybe or just a moron//??????????????/
you
Orid, as I stated earlier, as with thousands of other truck drivers, we see the very situation you described, happening at times, every day we are on the road.
Travelling in a convoy with others and then blaming someone else when an incident looms is at the least, extremely childish.
me// what inadequacies ? have you seen me drive , I may not have your super powers Super Rob or the yellow cape you wear , You are an absolute Idiot
As much as I have read and re read this I really cant assess why this would be unlucky to you. After all werent you the good one in assisting the truck driver to pass.

Unlucky because he then Ran me of the road attempted murder.

are you talking of my good attitude ? thanks , you have the bully attitude in spades typical truckie attitude

Hey Tht makes me a proffessional driver like you , proffessional driver is just a discription of your Job does not not i repeat not make you a good driver and with your attitude you should not be driving a lawnmower ,let alone a truck of any discription. you are a BULLY

And here is the most stupid comment of the day from Bully Bob. !st prize
* because you are truckie with super powers of knowing how I drive Yes? *
No, As a professional drivers we see this similar road situation on almost a daily basis. We do approx 1000 klms per working day all year long. Remember what I said about your attitude
BOB you see similar situations every day ? WHAT running people off the road for no reason.

With the looming AdBlu shortage, here is your opportunity to show the authorities how to move millions of tons of freight without trucks. Don't be shy,as you seem to think that you have all the answers.Cheers
Peter,(Orid) Your alleged sequence of events dies not add up.Later,I will detail my thoughts.Cheers
Why can you not accept Orids version of events that happened to him.
YOU WERE NOT THERE
Ian
Hi Wanda,
I thought you werent going to read my posts any more.
Orid wrote:
My wife and I had a very bad experience in Queensland , without going into detail he told us over cb he was going to kill us and ran us off the road, we were very lucky to be alive , I reported it to the cops , told them I tried to chase him down , comment from the cops, never ever chase a truckie and knock on his door most of them carry firearms Surprise surprise!!! Law unto them selves
******************************
This quote from him in an above post is interesting to say the least.
What a crock of $hit.
Orid, needs to assess his attitude when driving and consider the consequences of his selfish and poor driving habits.
also
Travelling in a convoy and talking on his CB on ch 40 as they do regularly might be something that our Orid needs to consider as well. Ch 18 is the caravan channel. Dribbling $hit of their travels on ch 40 or 29 is not illegal but it is not acceptable and unsafe to use those channels.
Many truck drivers will turn their radio down or off after listening to mile upon mile of drivel from the likes of Orid.

not quite sure what this rave is about, please explain!!
Cheers Bob
From my experience there are good and bad drivers in all fields.
I too have had trucks tailgating me but also, it seems to me that not many car drivers stick to the two to three seconds gap. In fact I was tail ended just last year whilst slowing down for a roundabout.
Hi, mate you don't need to apologise to anyone, in particular anyone who can't even be bothered to read ALL of your post.
I and I am sure most other fair minded, sensible, intelligent, decent people believe you. Forget the rest
Just forget about RD and Yobarr and there are a few others, they cntinue to put **** on anyone who dissagrees with what they say

Cheers
You are more than welcome to have the last say.
So when telling everyone what a bad driver I am and how years of experience dont count with a forum expert.
Those who are actually experienced and or professional drivers will judge for themselves. The others dont matter to me anyway.
