The curry muncher attendant at the service station console cares less about the safety of filling a metal can, after all on todays values that tin full of fuel is a $40 sale to him.
Goodness gracious me,Rob.I am being thinking that you are being right please, but also I am being thinking that it is being likely that the do-gooders amongst us are being likely to berate you please.Cheers

I am thinking that it would have been a nice and safe gesture to offer to lift the container down for her and lift it back up when she had done her filling.
If you'll give me your phone number I'll be able to ask your advice regarding etiquette and manners in future?
Mike, it had nothing to do with manners or etiquette, it was a legitimate safety issue you raised. Now unless you offered to help, and she declined, you become part of the issue by simply leaving.
The standard you walk away from is the standard you accept! In this case you could have removed the risk for a minute or two of your time, instead of leaving it to the woman, and other men in the area.
Well... well... well....
What assumed conclusions you gleefully leap to... how do you know that I did not suggest doing that?
Read it again Mike. I jumped to no conclusion. I said that ifyou didnt ask, I considered you should have. I stand by that. If you did ask, and the woman declined it was out of your hands.
So as you gleefully, in your terms, decided I assumed you didnt ask her to assist, perhaps you can set me straight. Did you ask her? If so, I agree there was nothing else you could do.
As to your comment Rob, no Pope uniform on at all. Some comments are inappropriate, especially when detail regarding the operator is missing. I note you even critique others based on them not having all the information. Perhaps consider that when you are commenting.

Yes you are correct Heathy,
I did not know wether the console operator was in fact an Indian or a calathumpian.
I should not have assumed that he was just because another may have suggested it, and in a similar manner that you might suggest that another should offer to help to someone without knowing full circumstances. From my observation at any busy service station, the forecourt driveway pump area is not an area where a conversation should be encouraged.
The Gerry full of fuel did not explode and if it had, the timing by Mikes intervention would have to actually pre empt the woman not putting the can on the ground before pulling the bowser trigger.
Mike got back into his vehicle and drove off thus resulting in those who were waiting to use the pump did not have to wait until he did the duty that those with their Pope Hats on might suggest from the comfort of the armchair.
The console operator either did not see or did not want to see the lady dispensing fuel against rules and common practice.
Got to get me one of those hats.

It should also be pointed out here that when the console operator does in fact hit the big red button then it shuts down all the pumps.
Isnt that fun when someone on the forecourt pulls out their mobile phone and you are in a hurry to fuel up.

The implication of such was a mile wide in your post including the use of exclamation marks.
You speak like a sly politician Ian; you don't actually tell the lie but you come so close to it no one can tell the difference.
Of course I asked her if I could help! She informed me, and the pump numbers confirmed, she had almost finished,
Jeezzz! You make a post about a serious safety issue just to remind people of a simple thing and all the lurkers come out of the woodwork to try and score points. A dull weekend is it guys?

As for Wanda the Wonder screaming "Racist"... this is the same person who referred to us all as a "bunch of old white men" a few months back on this forum.
