I am a petrol user for my Land Rover & pay extra for RON98 (more economical than RON91) as the federal "take", works out better for me. A flat tax across all fuels unless you commute by aeroplane which the fuel tax is so close to zero, it's not worth arguing with administration unless you are filling your A380 with heated swimming pool heating depression!
But I do personally believe that the Victorian per km tax grab on EVs was wrong.

We have waited for Unleaded 91 to come down from the high price of $2.35 here in Logan Qld.
Sooo yesterday at Ampol I filled up both our Toyota sedan and our cruiser at the low price of $1.85.
The sedan took 50 litres and the Cruiser with a reserve tank took 104 litres.
Total cost including the 4 cents discount was approx.... Sedan $97 and Cruiser $190.00 = $287.00
This equates to an overall savings if I had filled up on the higher price of $77.00.
Obviously, the lesson here is to make sure one fills up at the lower price cycle.
Now compare this to a litre plus ( 3 bottles ) of water at my golf club costs $12.

If someone had suggested 30yrs ago that they could sell water for more than the price of fuel their friends would have had them committed...it's never made sense.

Glass must be very expensive in Europe!!
Someone suggested to me that the plastic containers they sell the water in is what their core business is, makes you think.
