OK, finally I am having that lightbulb moment. TBM on the compliance plate means nothing but TBM must not exceed the TBM of the tow vehicle. The caravans GVM + TBM = ATM. ATM as stamped on the compliance plate must not be exceeded. I think I have finally got it. Thanks for everybodys help.
ATM=GTM plus TBM.The term 'GVM' usually relates to motorised vehicles.'GTM' is Gross Trailed Mass,or weight on van's wheels.Cheers

Sorry I did not respond as quickly as some members expected. One even suggesting I had long gone from the thread and members were wasting their time trying to help. One suggesting that the OP may have been a setup. Nothing could be more wrong. I have been away in my caravan for four weeks with scratchy internet at best and otherwise enjoying myself which is what these boards and caravaning is all about. As a rookie I appreciated all the help, but maybe not so much those posts trying to impart a little Shakespeare. Anyway I am here to advise the results of my weighbridge do-over. On returning from my trip I called into the same weighbridge and had a pleasant chat with the same operator. He was happy to redo the weights, at no charge, this time with the caravan unhitched. Both the TBM and GTM were less than the first time. This maybe because of less water and food on the returning trip but the TBM unhitched was actually 31kg less than the first time. The new numbers puts me under the compliance plate ATM, the printout I have filed away with my insurance papers. It has been a worthwhile exercise for me as I now know I have to lose some weight in the van when setting off and we are now deciding what gets left at home, starting with less water. Thanks again for all the help.

I'm pleased that you have sorted out your issue but am immensely disappointed that you can't share the joys of Shakespeare with the multitude of Thespians, wannabees & schoolchildren across the land. LOL
I suppose that there is nothing as entertaining on this forum as a discussion of caravan weights. It brings out a range of feelings & emotions, but buried amongst the dross are nuggets of great information & knowledge.
