Wonder how Janet (maids) got on getting the answer she wanted. We toured Australia using the hand operated machine, warmed the milk and water up on gas. We wore out two machines, they did about 600 cups of coffee each.
My 12 year old Bezzera machine has made approx 3 espresso's a day and still going strong, that's over 13000 coffee's by my reckoning.
Am I a coffee snob? not really, however I am a long time active member of the Coffee Snobs forum (thirteen years) if that makes me a snob guess I won't argue.
My "Home Machine" for past 12 years (Boema...made in Aust.)....I have put approx. 350 kgs. of coffee through it in that time. I have set up around a dozen of these machines for friends and family over last 10 years ..all second hand and all still operating as normal. They are a great, good value, simple machine using quality components and produce excellent espresso. KB ---- Oops, I have put my Message in the wrong spot - ah well not to worry!

It isa little known fact that Bezzera invented the coffee machine According to what I have read. I have one on the kitchen bench at home,great device.

At home we have a modest little espresso machine - a 'Baby Gaggia', now approaching 20 years old, has been apart a few times for DIY repairs , but still going strong - at least it was last time we were at home, & hopefully will be happy to be resurrected when we return.
We also have a Zassenhaus box grinder like this, with cast iron burrs, similar to the one Dorian had. A very nice little grinder
A small Japanese Porlex grinder with ceramic burrs. Fitted nicely inside the Aeropress when we were using it. Hard work - the Zassenhaus is easier because you can hold it between you knees when grinding
And an electric Gaggia grinder/doser - as said earlier, we have switched to pre-ground , stored in the freezer, when travelling, but it will be nice to compare fresh ground beans from this when we get home again.

wow!!.
i refrigerate a newly opened packet of coffee beans. then i grind a chosen amount to give me three days of ground coffee for my beer mug (dedicated to coffee only). i refrigerate that three day lot in a coffee dedicated plastic salt crystal container (doesnt give any plastic or salt taste). then daily i put four spoons of coffee (stays fresh) into my coffee plunger, add boiling water, let it settle a tick, then plunge the coffee, then pour into my mug onto a large spoon of good honey (the sort that doesnt drip). then i add an appropriate amount of soy milk. then stir well. finally, drink slowly. oh heaven! hey guys, horses for courses ...
