I dont object to the app based on privacy issues, as the government has ample opportunity to track me by my metadata, my issue is revelence, where I am my daily contact is with known people all be it with social distancing, if we do go to town its to do some shopping, then the longest and closest contact is with the checkout operator.
Its pointless to promote an app where its success is dependant on people who have tested positve and are on the data base not remaining in isolation, the promotion of the app is a panacea to make those who are scared feel safe, reality is you are highly unlikely to come in contact with anyone with covid 19 and that is dependant that they have been tested and carry a phone with the app active.
Just to clarify, you are aware aren't you that the app is NOT to track nor is it reliant on people who already have the virus? It's to keep a record of those who currently show no symptoms and are unaware they are actually sick that you have come into contact with. That will include people you may know very well and possibly even yourself who further on down the track DO show symptoms and are tested positive for Covid19 Just because you know some people well is no guarantee they may well be sick and not know it.

This morning in VIC 19 new cases were reported. All at the same meatwork factory and most were asymptomatic. The virus is still out there and in some cases you wouldn't know you have it because you're asymptomatic. The only time you will find out is if someone in your network gets sick and shows symptoms. Possibly an elderly person or a person with an immune deficiency. By then you and anyone else you've infected would have spread the virus to numerous others. Some may die! Wouldn't you want to warn anyone that you've been in contact with? Isn't that your moral duty to do so? If you don't keep track of all your contacts in the prescribed 21 day period, how are you going to do it? This app is only a tool. If you don't want to use it, fine, but how are you going to warn others when you turn out to be infected? You can claim that you don't socialise and don't meet other people etc. But 19 cases in one place! Let that sink in. That's how easy the virus spreads.

What is a greater concern is this place, they have failed in their due diligance by not having a protection and testing process in place to protect the workers and the product they process. In a state where the unions dictate to the government, the unions have failed their job, not disimler to health services union and owners of the Penrith nursing home.
One wonders if this facility processes meat for the export market and or the local market, we have heard no information of the virus possibility of contaminating the meat in the facility.

I would expect so as he lives in Sydney, No because I dont have a phone, I doubt my other 2 boys would bother, as one is an anti big brother is watching, the other lives in the bush and has limited contact with people daily.
it could be a genetic thing
people who object to the app on privacy issues probably put more info out on this form an things like face book than what will be given up on this new app. i have blue tooth connected in the tug. do i turn it off every time i get out ? no . have i turned my gps off ? no . is my phone connected to gps thru blue tooth ? yes are they tracking me ? no idea am i concerned ? if THEY wanted to find me there are other ways to track where i've been .

The only reason I dont carry a phone is, I dont need one there are other devices that cover our communication neeeds.
might suit your situation or if you live in a bubble but as people start to move about this information may be relevant when an outbreak occurs they can notify people who may be at risk to quickly to control it.

Interesting article.
'Which means that if you and I were in adjoining rooms, it would identify that we are both in contact, when in reality we are not.'
This is an issue I pointed out earlier.

I will get more Bluetooth signals from people in our block of units. I get Bluetooth signals from our garage which is further than any unit.
Unless they have come up with some distance algorithm for Bluetooth which is multi signal & allowing processing for each model of phone I doubt one can narrow distance to 1.5 metres.
I heard on ABC RN the other day that the contact data is for any length of time. Not the 15 minutes as has been stated until they get the bugs fixed in the app.
It's probably near impossible to get distance sorted out for Bluetooth & if collecting every contact from 1 second upwards & contacts on the other side of walls. The data collected will be overwhelming & meaningless.

From the Guardian:
Health officials have yet to access the data because the federal government needs to get the states and territories to sign a memorandum of understanding to ensure they abide by the privacy rules around the use of the data for contact tracing. It is expected these MoUs will be in place by 8 May.

I think the app is only one part of the solution, those without a phone are not able to participate obviously.
This app doesn't warn people with app that a Covid infection is near you.
The way it works is... a healthy person who has the app on his phone... gets symptoms, they get tested & it's positive. The authorities check their phone app to see who they were near in the past few days.
The people who were close are contacted and the people get tested.
The app doesn't have names or addresses or even locations, it has stuff all information about people, they only want phone numbers in order to contact possible clusters or potential infections.
It's a good thing for the country, anything to help us get out of this economic disaster and stop the deaths.

A coronavirus outbreak at a Melbourne abattoir has left consumers wondering about food safety-- but experts say meat is still very safe to eat, and any risk is "ridiculously small".
Eight big cats were infected by SARS-CoV-2 at Bronx Zoo by their keeper. Assuming he observed social distancing, then the infection must have been transmitted via the food, namely meat. What do the "experts" have to say about that?
'While 5.4 million Australians have signed up for the Government's COVIDSafe tracing app, Professor Kelly said state and territory contact tracers were still not able to use data collected on the app.
All states and territories need to agree to the app and train staff, and Professor Kelly said seven of the eight jurisdictions had done so.
He was not able to say which state or territory had not yet signed up, but said tracing would be fully operational early next week.'

This thread was raised over a year ago, and the subject was the COVIDsafe app, which worked when you were in proximity to a another person who also had it. That is no longer being promoted and we have now learned it only takes seconds to become infected, particularly with the latest more infectious strain.
That is quite different from the state based register system for recording what establishments you have visited.
Just to clarify, you are aware aren't you that the app is NOT to track nor is it reliant on people who already have the virus?
