Hi I live in South West NSW near Cowra and I am considering selling up in the next couple of years and buying a Van and travelling. I am also a woman with a 15 year old boy hopefully he will be off my hands by then. Is there groups of ladies that do this. And I would like to hear from other ladies that have actually done this to find out the best places to go and how to avoid the dangers of being alone.

Hi Louise,
Although I am the better half of a couple, we met lots of ladies travelling on their own.  There is really a lot of cameraderie on the road and we noticed that most 'singles' (both men and women) had lots of invitations from others to share dinner, drinks and even to travel together for awhile if it suited everyone's itinerary.

Hi Louise, I'm in the same boat myself so it would be good to stay in touch.  I've already taken a couple of three week trips on my own to get the feel of it.  I stayed in some beautiful areas... bush camps mainly & always felt safe & met some great people (mostly couples).  I live in Sydney & my dream is to take the 'big one' across to WA (Kimberley & N. Western coast) & take a few months but cost on one's own is somewhat prohibitive, with fuel being so expensive now.  Would love to find someone compatible to share costs & the adventure itself...in the meantime it's good to take the shorter trips if you can to find out if the travelling life is for you!

Have you thought of linking up with either the Aust. Caravan Club, they have clubs all over and I am sure there would be one near you.  Also the motorhome club if it's a small motorhome you end up buying.  Even if you check out their websites you could start to gather some info and perhaps join so you can start to chat on line with other members near you.  There is so much networking happening for those either wanting to travel or already travelling so start doing your homework and I think you will be quite surprised at how many are out there travelling on their own - but never really alone!!!

Hi Louise, I too am a 'travelling alone woman' - 63 and a widow. As yet I have only done 1 small trip by myself and a few with friends; but am biting the bullet and heading off to Uluru, returning to Brisbane via SA and outback NSW. I intend using the free camps as much as possible to stretch the $. Does anyone know of any van parks that charge per person - $20-25 is great value for two but a bit steep for 1. As yet I can't tell you much but will let you know how it all goes. The cost of fuel is a worry, however, it's either do it and see how I go or sell the car, van and give up my dream of travelling around this wonderful country of ours; not about to do that yet and it will be a sad day if it comes to that. Don't put it into the 'too hard' basket, if that is your dream then go for it. Cheers Carolyn
