Hello forum readers... I am asking if I require a special 240V extension lead at caravan and camping grounds. I only have a home built little camper, and really just need power ocasionally for a light and battery re-charging. So do I need a special lead with the huge 15amp earth, or will a domestic lead be OK. to use in Park electrical connections. Yeah..quite new to this camping in luxury.. Regards, Dennis

Because the circuit breaker on park poles are allowing for a current draw of 15 amps it is advisable and safer to use the 15 amp cable and then use a 10 amp four outlet with its own circuit breaker, also then protected with earh leakage that most parks have included on their poles . Make sure though if you or some one else make up a lead that you dont reverse the polarity from plug to socket and kill yourself. Best buy a 15 amp leed, they are not dear.

As a qualified Elect the advice that Technomad gave is sound. It is important to have the "safety switch (RCD, Earth leakage Circuit breaker) between the supply source (pole) and your power outlets in your camper.
Grrr!!!

mate a 10 mtr power lead is $17.00 on ebay at the moment. are you willing to risk yours or your familys life for that squibling ammount. me I'd grab the lead plus an rcd and anything else I could get my hands on, no second chances if you are on your own with electricity

Wow ! Thanks heaps for all that good advice.
So off I trundle down to the local hardware today and purchase all that safety gear.
I reckon I'd look rather strange with curly eye brows and nose hair if something went wrong.
Cheers everyone.

Yeah Grizzly, the frizzed hair is not a good look for an elderly chap....
