Hi All, Im new on here and have hopefuly found a site for us lonely singles to find a travel friend the best suggestion yet thanks Dave
Im leaving SA mid Nov?? going to perth but coming from a country town and not one for traffic am a little or should I say more than worried about being on my own.
I come from Tasmania but currently in SA, so getting out of Melbnourne was stressful Ha ha!!!!
I want someone that can travel with me or better still if I can tag along with some caravanning/ or other friendlies on the road, more for security reasons. A breakdown will send me into a major panic attack.
Im 51 year old female who has never been anywhere out of my home town before until I left for S Aus
So if anyone can help me please let me know asap so I can get things sorted here.

Hi Gaylene and welcome to us whacky wanderers, good on you for having the guts to get up and have a go, more power to you, you will find a traveling companion, as for breakdowns well they terrify everyone not just female, are you a member of the c.m.c.a. if not I strongly advise you joining if for nothing else then the companionship and cameraderie and help in various towns, I am a "helper" that means if you are anywhere near me when or if you run in to trouble you may contact me and I will render assistance, we, the helpers, are everywhere and growing in number by the day, we will conquer the world, there will be a new world order, we will rule, oh bugger!  got carried away there for a minute, but anyway just the gatherings are great fun and you will find friends there for life, also are you a member of a roadside assistance orginisation, R.A.A. or whatever it's equivelent is in other states, they may be usefull as well, maybe one of these uhf radio doohickies would be of benefit as well, be great if you need to contact help for whatever reason, it is only a matter of time before another single or a member of a group going your way will hook up with you and you will be off on the adventure of a lifetime, as I said before, you go girl!!!   

Hi Dave, Thankyou for your contact . Not a roadside member of RAA but was just thinking I should. As for radio no not that either. I guess no mobile coverage either!!!! What a silly question course not. After i get the car serviced then what, have a nervous breakdown entering adelaide or do you by pass it. Havent got all maps yet only an atlas

Hi straight back at you Gaylene, I assume you will be coming toward adelaide on the south eastern freeway in which case, if it was me, I would break off at the hahndorf exit, spend at least a couple of days based in hahndorf whilst touring the adelaide hills, mt barker, mylor etcetera etcetera, then when you have your fill (as if ) of the fantastic scenery and small villages and chocolate factorys and fresh produce ( I could go on and on ) you could then meander down through birdwood ( motor museum ) to angaston and nuriootpa, spend some time in the fantastic barrossa valley, wine, beutifull scenery, fantastic food and great people, then when you have your eloquent sufficiency ( a couple of days ) head towards kapunda on to tarlee and in to the fantasmagorical clare valley, wine, food, scenery, if you are in no hurry, nip across to morgan on the murray, terrific caravan park, base yourself there and explore the mighty murray ( no it is not dry ) take a drive to waikerie, keep an eye on your left,as you enter waikerie, you will see ( just above where they moor the murray princess, a big paddle steamer) a sign for chocolates, there is a small home made choccy factory in there and they are to die for, when you have stuffed yourself silly with all the delights of the murray, then retrace back to clare and toodle up to port pirie, relax for the night and then head for the eyre peninsula O.M.G. oysters, crayfish, tuna, stay at cowell and then you are on your way, if you have more time, after port pirie head down the yorke peninsula and the treasures therein,  anyway thats what I would, and have done many times, fantastic country, terrific people, great times ahead, dont be frightened of adelaide if you go in, its not too bad, not that many nomads have died, this month, anyway, and they really werent as painfull a deaths as the papers reported, (only joking) 

Hi Dave you make me laugh I might be a nomad, but unfortunately I dont have a lot of money so need to get to WA as cheap and quick as i can. Sorry to bust your bubble wine YUK ddonnt like it . I,l be driving from Kingston through to adelaide, but if I can avoid Adelaide then I will. Or better still go on the train in which i still have to go into Adelaide I cant win. Can you come and get me ha haha!!!!!!! JOKING. Might go into victor harbour on the way, look up some people I know from Tas.

ahhh!!!!  victor harbour, what a great little spot, whale watching this time of year, you will enjoy being down there, give the clydesdales a nose rub for me, watch your toes, those big fellows are heavy,  will be cold but, If I was anywhere near kingston (say g'day to the big crayfish for me) I would be proud and pleased to bring ya back with me, but the dragon wont let me go and get you, something about marriage vows or some such,  yep I'll agree with you about the wine in fact I hate all alcohol, whenever I see a bottle I am always a lot happier when its all gone, so I can go for a drive to some fantastic places to get some more, not when I am typsy though cause thats naughty, so many places, so much grog, so many friends, god life is so hard, if I make you laugh, then my life is just that little bit more richer

Hello Gaylene and how great to see another Solo traveller. May I offer you some guidance thru Adelaide. I live in the Adelaide hills very close to the SE Freeway and will be my pleasure to assist your safe passage on your way to the West. I am still getting my act together to take off and enjoy a retired (born again) adventure and able to share experiences with some around the camp fire chats. Dave has rallied me into more action and less thinking.....Good onya Mate. Is there such a thing as "White Line Fever"...ha ha . No..just look at the scenery. Safe & Fun travels Gaylene.

Hello Griz and Dave Thanks for email, If somewhere there can tell me do I have to worry about fgetting petrol across there. I have 3 months to get my act together that includes moving out of my rental and mail etc etc as I have no plans at the moment just to get across to WA is my biggest fear. I guess I would meet up with friendlys at a petrol station and ask them if I could follow them across, for my own sanity and safety. By the way i have a nissan pulsar and it will be loaded with all my possessions, so a huge drag on the car. Hate the wine and like the beer...what a life... Gaylene

Gaylene, as grizzly says, "think less travel more" great saying to live by, honestly I think you are working yourself into a worried frenzy for nothing, just fil up the vehicle check the basics, oil, water, belts, get a service done and tell the mechanic what you are about to do and ask him to have a look around it for you, honestly nearly every  thing that one worrys about never happens, the one thing to keep telling yourself is to "keep out the a.n.t.s." this anachrinim stands for AUTOMATIC NEGATIVE THOUGHTS if one lives by this rule then I cant see anything causing a problem, you will have a ball, dont worry about the city's, most drivers tend to miss us, drive as you usually do, stop and have a cuppa when you feel a bit tired, look at the scenery, in short ENJOY THE DRIVE it is a fantastic trip, treat it like that, dont think about what might happen, plenty of time to do that IF something does go wrong, it wont though, just remember, NO ANTS. just enjoy, if you come across other travellers have a chat (my middle name) dont be afraid to aproach others, most dont bight 

Someone mentioned Victor Harbour???? Oh lovely spot... stop at Goolwa, take the ****le train to the Harbour then travel by Horsetram out to the island and return then back to Goolwa on the afternoon train after haveing had a spendid "pensioner meal" at the pub on the corner.... Wonderfull day out.... Of course Clydesdales never actually ever pulled horse trams in real life they are too heavy and ponderous. There was a special breed called strangely enough "Tram Ponies" who had the stamina but also the speed to pull horse trams and they worked 4 hour shifts....
Alas I too am spoken for so I could not share expenses (I know I'm also male but for you Gaylene I could cross dress)... You should have a nice trip, it's always best to stop and smell the roses so to speak... When you get to Port Augusta take the scenic route via Whyalla and Port Lincoln, well worth the deviation.
And keep us apraissed of your progress via internet cafes etc....

Hi mr Faulty, Thanks for that input. Can anyone tell me what towns where i can get a bed Im going through the centre heading towards Kalgoorlie. Im going by car not a camper. How long would it take to drive 100km as Id have to be somehere befor night fall so need to make preps for it. So if anyone can give me an info Thanku
