It is always cheaper to buy online, even insurance as they won't match it in person.
You have done the right thing by comparing rates online, just ensure that the coverage is adequate and comprehensive in comparison, and go for it.

Hylda just got in touch with AAMI (who she has used for years) to get comprehensive insurance for her little 2000 Toyota Corolla & ended up paying a massive $1242 for the year. When I found out it sent me into shock. Even my Landcruiser is way below that figure.
Since we got back to Grafton &, up until now the car has only had property damage insurance as we aren't flushed with money at the moment but Hylda will be doing some home care work soon which requires an insured car so, we want to go for the cheapest no frills comprehensive one.
I rang AAMI myself &, after the man double checked everything, they could only drop it down to about $1000. I then went online and did a quote with AAMI & strangly came up with $766.
Next I did some other online quotes, first with Bingle which I have seen adds for on TV & was quoted $212, then I went to iSelect which selects the cheapest quotes from multiple insurance companies & was quoted $330 to $350 by 3 different ones.
I also checked with NRMA online which is not known as one of the cheapest insurers unless you have multiple policies & they quoted $376
I thought AAMI was one of the cheapest but it seems that's changed radically. I'm not sure how they can justify charging a quarter of the resale price of a vehicle in insurance a year.
Yes! we will be cancelling with AAMI & using another. Cheers Jon

Did anyone see the news last night about IAG(NRMA) insurance offering staff double pay for 6 weeks after returning from maternity leave???
Now I have some idea why the premiums went up so much
maybe nothing to do with natural disasters

I gave up AAMI many years ago because they got too exxy. I've been with CGU for the last few years, but recently changed to NRMA. It was the cheapest for my Lucy.
Also, you've just reminded me that I need to get Lulu onto NRMA too.
Doug, I found APIA one of the dearer ones too, which it shouldn't be.

APIA is supposed to be for us older people who don't have a lot of $$$$.
Doesn't matter who they are I spose, they are all in it for the money anyway.
I have all my insurance's through my private health fund HBA and I get good discounts as I have everything with them. If I get to the stage I can't afford Private Health Cover I will look around then.

I insure my courier, and my house with APIA. and the car , fully comp, is $22 a month, which covers the slide on when being used. The house insurance jumped double, because of Yasi, but I cut it back to about $60 a month. All in all , including the business, I pay about $2500 a year, which is a great incentive the sell the house , and the business and go on the road. Bill

I was with Aami for years and only ever paid between 300 and 400 dollars a year for my 1999 Hyundai Excel. Can't imagine where they get off charging you over 1000. Did she have a ratings put into it. No accidents for so many years. I was happy withthem until I got Myrtle, they don't cover campervans so had to go somewhere else.

There is absolutely NO control over these huge corporations. Now you may think you're insuring with a certain company, but do a check to see who actually underwrites them. Some big company. National Seniors is underwritten by Allianz. I was with Allianz and they automatically transferred me when I turned 60. My caravan is insured with CIL, which is specifically caravan insurance, but is also underwritten by a larger insurance corporation. These days all the controls over these industries are beyond the management scope of government. They planned it that way. Personally I think they let us down. We are the victims of this financial free-for-all, while the executives pay themselves these huge multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses, and the share holders get the rest. We the suckers pay the premium of premiums and get bugger all for our money. Just try making a claim and you'll really see the true colour of YOUR money.

Years ago I insured my car with Allianz, and didnt question their prices. Recently got other quotes and they are still the best for what I need. AAMI makes good advertisements but their premiums are too much for me. My partner got a whopping bill for NRMA insurance, so I persuaded him to get other quotes, and even though others were a bit less he's sticking with NRMA because he has a lifetime no claim bonus with them. I havent worked it out but he reckons its worth it.

Maybe 20 years ago I was insured with AAMI and when I had someone rear-end me on the way to work they made me take the car to their assessment office way over the other side of town, they wouldn't let me take it to somewhere local for assessment. I had to take half a day off work when it wasn't even my fault. Needless to say I've never insured anything with them again.

Funnily enough, the cheapest one, Bingle which quoted $212 is, from memory, underwritten by AAMI the most expensive which charged Hylda the $1242.

Having a no claim bonus is like not having topay any excess when you have a claim.

Just saw an add here in Qld for NRMA, offering 10% less than any written quote.
When we finished work I checked out many insurance companies that stated cheaper for pensioners, Not one came any where near what we allready had with NRMA,
