That winning photo was just the bees knees, don't you think? Loved it. Loved the frogs, would love to see it with a caption, wonder what they were thinking. The smile on their faces was classic and those eyes of the owl had me captivated.

Wow! What a thrill to be selected in the top ten photos, then to be voted into second place with my owl photo. Thanks go to all who entered and voted in this competition but also to the organizer who has obviously worked so hard behind the scenes and the judge who must surely have enjoyed looking at the numerous entries before evaluating them. I would especially like to thank "Briiiant Prints" for their generous sponsorship of the competition. Congratulations also to the winners of first and third prizes.
With all of us taking so many photos while on the road it is great to have an outlet where our images can be shared with others. Perhaps regular monthly comps could be offered on this site without the need for prizes.
For those who may be interested the owl was photographed on a night time tour of Currumbin Sanctuary on the Gold Coast. The camera was a Canon 5d with a zoom lens set to 85mm.The aperture was f4.5, shutter speed 1/60 sec, and ISO 800. The flash was set to reduce output by 1/3.
While only new to the forum I hope to submit some more reports and photos when we travel from Toowoomba to the Flinders Ranges in mid July.
Regards KenK

A great collection (in both senses of the word!) of images.. many thanks to the judge, sponsor and all who made the effort to capture and enter so many and varied styles of photographing animals. Congratulations to all 10 finalists and the winner for his beautifully caught bee among the rich colours. The owl was absolutely captivating.. I think the judge used "hypnotic" and I agree. Our joint effort photo of the frogs (Felicity spotted them, I got the pic) was at the Proserpine Caravan Park ; lucky no one found me prowling around (outside) the ladies' Thanks to all voters!!

Great photos from all. some fun and some artistically brilliant. It seems there are more and more great amateur photographers regularly contributing to this web site which only makes the job harder for Steve Jones & us would be judges.
The results are in. Following heavy voting (and counting!) of the great Grey Nomads 'Capturing Creatures' photo competition we can now reveal the winners. Click here to see the results: http://www.thegreynomads.com.au/featurespages/photocompwinner4.htm
