Caravan Registration Paper Weights Not Matching Caravan Manufacturer Specifications

For your information, after reading here about caravan on road inspections and being over weight etc., I checked my registration papers and discovered that the specifications printed are not what the manufacturer claims.
So I emailed the dealer and the NSW RMS;
RMS advised to obtain a Blue Slip and apply for new registration paper.
Dealer advised 2015 delivery too long ago to decide if the errors were dealer generated or RMS, but suggested comparison with the compliance plate fixed to the caravan. I did that and discovered a new set of numbers, for example, 1800 kg brochure maximum loaded weight is 1775 kg on compliance plate.

it certainly is a minefield. Our last caravan was a full caravan and we found it was registered as a pop top. Lucky we noticed it just after purchase. The yard picked it up and fixed it with transport dept. good luck.

sounds like you need to unload it. no personal belongings , no water , no gas . then go and get a tare weight. subtract that from the ATM on the vin plate . this will give you accurate allowable load . then either go to RMS to rectify paperwork or seek out an engineer to see if you can get ATM upgrade if required .

I only use it for occasional touring and travel as lightly loaded as I can manage.

If the weights aren't a concern then just notify RMS that the paperwork is wrong . At this point it doesn't matter who stuffed up you just need to correct it. Rego papers and vin plate must match.

The big trouble is that the licensing authorities will never admit they stuffed up.
My Father years ago bought a Toyota Crown brand new. A couple of years into ownership, he noticed that the license papers now showed the car as being a 4 cylinder instead of a 6 cylinder that it was. Some muppet in the dept of transport had altered it.
He rang up to complain and ask them to correct their error and was told in no uncertain terms that Toyota Crowns only came in a 4 cylinder and he must have swapped the engine. He would have to bring it into the pits to have it inspected and certified with the 6 cylinder engine. My father who was an automotive engineer, couldn't believe what he was hearing. He explained that he had bought the car new and it had the original 6 cylinder motor in it. Nothing had been modified. They wouldn't have it and still insisted he have it inspected. Told them what they could do with their inspection and it was still listed as a 4 cylinder to the day he sold it.
I have a current car which is bright yellow. Had that from new. After about 5 years we noticed that someone in the dept had changed the colour to red. Rang them up and same thing. Told me we must have painted it and I would need to have it inspected and there was no way I could convince them that it had been yellow from birth and was still yellow. I refused to pay an inspection fee for their stuff up so its still red on the license papers.
Stupid government seat warmers.

Hi Greg
I believe you are in WA. Glad to hear that your department is as bad as NSW was in past times. However I believe it is now better than it was In past times the RTA had the clunkiest computer system of any place I dealt with. For a department which was for 'registering' car details and owners and licences etc it seemed not able to cope IMHO. But it did seem to be able to pump out the information to issue fines OK.
But only a couple of years ago they could not supply me with the details of a modification that is listed on the rego for my newly purchased minibus. They cannot find it ??? so do not know what it is, just the reference number. Hmmm should I just put that 7Ltr v8 in and just say that is the modification referred to

Got a Jurgens too. The weight is as it came off the production line. Then add any dealer fit options, 60L of water, two full gas bottles etc. By the time you drive the van out of the dealer's yard it's already way above what is on the compliance plate.
