exorbitant increase in the cost of using M2 and M7 in Sydney.

Today I looked at my account held with the Linkt freeways and associated roads. To my suprise the cost of using the M2 and M7 has shown an amazing increase., when towing a caravan as they now hold that a vehicle towing a caravan is classed as =HEAVY COMMERCIAL. As an example a car pays $3.41, if towing a van it jumps to what I see as commercial rates, ie $24.57 one way. that was charged from M7 M5 motorway to Richmond Rd, not even the full length of the M7=M2. My vehicle is registered for private use.
This ridiculous situation needs looking into, this increase probably applies equally in many other areas.

Hi Garry...seems there are now only two classes of vehicles? The first is 3 axle vehicles under 2 metres in height,(cars towing caravans etc) or 2 axle vehicles under 2.8 metres high.I dont know of any full-height vans under 2 metres? Everything else pays top dollar,so possibly worth considering alternative routes, which could be a nightmare for people not familiar with the area! Cheers

Alternate route unfortunately seems to becoming necessary, when Pennent Hills Rd tunnel is completed I see it costing about $100 return using the entire length of the M7 etc. Anybody would think we don't pay enough with rego, fuel tax etc

The M5 motorway charges for anything over 2 m high. I was charged the truck rate for my single axle caravan (3 axles total) because it was over 2 m high (it is just under 2.1 m high). So I can see these charges no applying to the M7/M2 motorways as well. What about a raised 4WD with roof racks - I am sure it won't take much to put the height over 2 m. There is going to be quite a few people upset about this change (including me). Even to drive a car on the M7/M2 is ludicrous, especially when you consider the original 3 x 3 fuel taxes which were supposed to be only for 3 years. How many years back was that?

If the vehicle is under 2.8 metres, with only two axles, the low toll applies.Cheers

The TAXPAYER of course. So why do they sell management rights to private companies who raise tolls to massive levels.
A few days ago even the Airlines banded together to lobby the Government to force Macquarie Group to drop the exorbitant fees they charge the airlines.
Personally I think they should be forced to publish the names of all their shareholders so we can see who owns shares in these companies.

I just got my Monthly Statement form Linkt (VIC) Toll system. I thought I would just check it out and there it was. I used the M7 M2 going up to Townsville in June this year and it was $8.19. I used it again in September just gone and BINGO $24.57
Oh well, I'll still use the M7 M2 as it is only twice a year.
In VIC I am classed as a LCV but on the M7 M2 I am a heavy vehicle due to van being on back. It had to happen as I thought it would.

Although I don't use toll roads, as I never ever visit the cities, I think they don't charge enough. It should be at least $50 each way for any vehicle, and their also should be a congestion tax in cities of at least $2.00 a km. That would force people to use public transport. If you are travelling on a trip away from the city, you don't have to pay the CT.

You can not be serious,
You obviously have never had to navigate around Sydney or any other capital for that matter in a motor vehicle.
As your name suggests you are in fact a Bycyclecamper.
Well if you are then I propose this, that all bicycles travel only on the shoulder off the bitumen and are not permitted on any major highway.
I also propose that all bicycles are registered and that all riders are licenced and bicycles have a weight limit as well and if riding double file or more your bicycles are confiscated.

Plan your trip.Set your gps to no tolls . In most cases you dont have to travel through cbd to get through . Cities seem to be a mig magnet . Even going south from Penrith to Mt Gambier the GPS takes you near Melbourne . I break it up with towns like Wagga Wagga to go through . Yea Pennant Hills road has plenty of traffic lights . But whats the hurry ? Just plan , keep away from peak traffic !! M1 is free . If you dont get flashed !!

I live on Sydney's northern beaches & if you travel during the middle of the day across Sydney the traffic is bearable. I avoid tolls like the plague & I'm not towing.
If you followed the GPS for the Great Central Road you go around in circles & detours beyond comprehension. Same on Gibb River Road.

Thankfully I live in one of the sensible states that doesn't have tolls and it would be political suicide for a government to think about bringing them in here.
When I travel to the east I avoid them like the plague. Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane miss out on my tourist dollars.

While his mention of his toll costs are over the top with price eg $50 and $2/km his principle sounds good to me to lower congestion.
This country would not have the traffic problems it has if decentralisation was introduced decades ago.

Instead of often running almost empty, trains and buses would be better utilised.......I expect that the cost of running a loaded train or bus would be only slightly greater than the cost of empty running? A caravan is not a heavy vehicle, height has nothing to do with road wear and tare. I am happy to pay a toll for my van eg. double car toll. A caravan is only another car its not a 50ton rig.
So if I put a canoe on the roof of my car (4x4) I am considered a heavy vehicle, give me a brake.
