Its been raining lightly for 4 hours now around the Euroa area. Weather radar indicates more over Gippsland and the high country.
Lets hope it does help extinguish some fires

As much rain as possible!
Free camping from Perth to Sydney this year via Great Central Road (staff at Giles said they have never seen it so dry), there was zero moisture in the ground burying number twos. We have never seen such dry ground digging holes daily across the country! Probably the most scientific daily test done to date on such a regular basis with verifiable data placement!

Am I the only person who struggles to understand your replies on here. What has the great central road and a picture of a crashed rocket got to do with rain in the bushfire area?? Let alone burying number 2s !! Gees Im confused with your thinking. Pete

Giles staff are city slickers who apply years in advance to get a six month posting. Im absolutely sure city people have never seen it so dry. Central west QLD graziers were telling me 5 years ago they have never seen it so dry. And it has hardly rained since then !!!

It is 12 noon and we have been receiving light rain for the past 24 hours in Bairnsdale and over most of East Gippsland. We have now received 13 ml. It will not put the fires out in our region but it will certainly slow them down. Coupled with little wind, it gives everyone a chance to catch their breath. Bairnsdale has often looked like a ghost town over the past week. Today it looks like a dynamic town again. People are everywhere- the shops are busy and the streets are full of cars. We will see what happens later in the week when it is expected to warm up again, but for now everything is looking pretty "rosy" compared to the past week.
Here in Kelly Country North East VIC we only got a very light sprinkle just enough to settle the dust for the day only. Back to dry this morning.
SEND IT DOWN HUEY!

We have our watertank that has the best water in the world, but now it tastes a distinct smokey/ash flavour. Had I known I would have opened the valves and not accepted the rain into those tanks.

Lots of sadness in our lives, most people who have tanks left would kill for that water.

Everyone is in the same boat and the bureau said nothing will change until the wet season is underway up north.

and I'm not detached from that fact but it might help others to stop tainting their tank water by reading it here.

Hey Tony. Yeah we have the best water in the world here too. On our house and sheds we have 5 10000 gallon tanks. We also have access to town water but we are at the end of the pipeline. I can pee faster than our town water supply. We just spent 2 weeks at the coast for our Christmas break. My Kedron holds 360 litres in its tanks. We took 2 jerrycans of tank water on the a frame. No way will I drink town supply water. But back to your smoky water. Dont worry. You wont even notice it next week. You will be used to it by then. Regards Pete

I suppose we got a shock that we didnt think about the smoke having any effect on our water catchment. Visible ash sure, I'd expect it to taint the water but smoke? Anyway, it bothers me less than my wife. So a bit extra beans in the coffee and she hasnt repeated her distaste lol
