Hi again all, I am chasing ideas on installing a single arm davit on the back of my van's rear bar (load capacity of 160kg). Has anyone got one and if so would they share the design or manufacture with me.. I am thinking of unloading and loading the twin spare tyres etc..

Gooday, Suggest you rephrase your question with a better or more commonly known name for what you are looking for, I had never heard of such a thing, but after Googling I discover it is in effect a form of hoist or lifting device.

Bliss the OP used the correct term "Davit", it is a specific type of hoist - often used on ships to raise and lower life boats - with no driven slewing or luffing motions, (i.e. fixed reach arm).

LOL. Yeh, I picked up on thatoo. Pretty specialised terminology. My bet is OP has worked in shipping related industry or Confined Spaces.
I used to use a simple boat winch on a pipe with a folding out rigger. Yep, probably not understood by some.
Any way I welded a 300 mm bit of 40 mm steel gal pipe onto my Jerry can frame and put the upright with the winch attached into that. It could spin freely in the 40 mm pipe and the winch could lift a 35 inch tyre that was around 40 kg.
