The caravan has cramped my style and I not longer travel to the really remote and difficult locations I did in the 4WD so mobile phone and Amateur Radio are now more than sufficient for me. Spot is an excellent system just *ensure* you have a clear plan in place for when you hit the "Help" button. "Check in" and "Emg" are obvious but you really need to organise what you want to happen for "Help". Written from personal experience when my son got into grief in remote bush.

Have used one for years now Ger08, although ours is the "Spot Connect" device. It has been good to be able to send a message to family and friends that "all is OK" when off the grid, and they have our location. Thankfully we haven't had to use the SOS function. The first device we had failed but had another sent from the US very quickly. Cheers, Bob

I use one as I travel a lot in the outback alone, my wife feels some comfort in knowing I am at my camp each night when out of mobile range. One issue I have is the annual service cost which sounds okay until you learn it is US dollars.
