Should the door on a van have the handle on the left or right?
My understanding is that if the door was not shut properly, a RHS handle door would blow back when travelling, whereas a LHS handle door would blow open if not shut properly.
Some forward opening door interfere with the front window. Just asking as have seen both.
Both of your pictured vans have door that will interfere with windows - This is why vans of yesteryear had sliding windows - not rocket science. If ordering a new van sliding windows would definitely be my choice with doors always hinged on left side of door.

My personal opinion I don t like centre doors and both your examples are just that I believe they take away from the usable awning area .I have a rear door left hinged which opens into the awning area and also can eat into the awning area a R/H hinge door would lean against the awning arm but give more room. In saying that I agree with your verdict on the L/H Vs R/h hinged doors being blown open or closed boils down to personal preference

Worried about all this while designing our home built van. As we were going to save hundreds of $$ by buying new but through eBay so it mattered not where the hinges were because-
- we always lock the door while travelling so it isnt going to open anyway
- if a large enough awning is installed the door opening wont matter
- we wanted our foldaway antenna towards the front and reachable from inside through the door opening for adjustment
So we found a ,handle on the left door new for $600, dirt cheap.

I have always had the hinge on the left, and the handle on the right, in any caravan/RV I have owned/used
On one old caravan, the door lock just about disinterested, going across the top of Australia
I kept the door closed, with a bungee strap, hooked onto the cabinet work, around the fridge
I would not have been able to do that, if the handle had been on the left

Sadly my caravan door is hinged on the RHS and has on at least two occasions sprung open while travelling. Once, we covered over 100km on dirt roads before noticing the door was open and the caravan was filling with dust. So my preference would be hinge on the LHS.
