Hi all what is the opinion of everyone to travel while the corona virus is active. We have plans to leave SA in early June to travel to the NT then across to WA then back home. There dose not seem to be any area that is commenting on this.

Meanwhile, from tomorrow anyone entering Tasmania will have to fill out a special Tasmanian arrival card, in a measure to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
The requirement would apply to both international and domestic travellers, and Tasmanians returning to the state.
Premier Peter Gutwein said the arrival card would be mandatory, and help ensure that anyone who needs help would get it.
"[It'll be] so that we can keep in touch with you, importantly provide you with advice should you require it, and understand where you are in our community for that period, largely to provide assistance should you need it," he said.

ABC Radio National this morning, Pat Turner is extremely worried about Aboriginal communities. They want no one to go into Aboriginal areas due the vast number of people with compromised health. What I was reading between the lines is it may even come to cutting off major areas of the north of Australia. There is nothing slightly concrete on this yet but things are changing fast, like another interest rate cut next week, out of cycle!
So if you go north it would be wise to have options B, C & D to go elsewhere or be stuck somewhere. Who knows maybe there are border closures on the mainland, not likely but we don't know where things are going.
There has also been a run on supermarkets in the outback so lack of toilet paper is not the only issue.

I would not like to guess, what the situation will be in June, brotell (Terry)
At the end of January, hardly anyone knew about the coronavirus
At the end of February, most people knew about it
Now in the middle of March, a lot of places (in other countries), are in shut down mode With the leaders in the UK, thinking of telling anyone over 70, to self isolate

G'day. It might be a overreaction but, as we both have underlying medical conditions, we have put our trip on hold for 1 month. We will see what happens then.
Cheers.

I arrived 6 weeks ago in South Africa before this Coronavirus thing really took hold. Up until last week we were lucky not to have any cases of it in this country today there are more than 50 all started by people travelling from Europe. Today I was put into isolation in my little chalet for the next 14 days not because I travelled anywhere but because I picked up a colleague from the airport who had come from Australia. So now I cant go home even if I was able to get a flight back and my wife told me that if I did manage to get back I am going to put into self isolation for another 14 days. All a bit inconvenient but my real concern is that the public health system in this country is in meltdown (even before the crisis) normally we get around it by paying cash to enter their private health system which is excellent. If you get Caronavirus here there will be no choice they will send us to the governments designated public hospitals for isolation and treatment.
One of the guys went to the doctor last week with really elevated blood pressure he was admitted to the local private hospital for testing and observation. When he booked in he had to pay R58000 (A$5800) up front , each test they did he had to pay before they would do them, when they discharged him the next morning he was hit with a Drs bill for another R80000 ($8000). 1 night in hospital for observation and a few tests cost him over $15000 so dont leave home without your travel insurance or credit card.
Cheers

I doubt you'll be able to get travel insurance which covers Covid-19.
I was a little blase when this virus first appeared but I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that it *really* is a major issue.
On ABC radio yesterday Dr Norman Swan said the death rate for over 65s may be up to 10%.
I have a nice little spot deep in the forest where no one goes and it is only a 15m drive to a small country town with an excellent IGA and gas/fuel etc, I'm seriously thinking of heading there in a week or so and holing up for a few months.
Anyway, I should be immune as I have a good supply of toilet paper :)

Strop n i like to go to the country around this time for 5 mths. We have a housesit though this year starting april. People are going to uk. Have not been told any different as yet. We are both in the dangerous zone for age n health So the sooner we get to the open country and away from crowds the better. My concern is we free camp or use showgrounds and most showgrounds have stay limits and more concerning a thought is they will be shut down. Another concern is doctors closing their books to new patients.

In some towns now the doctors shut their books to new patients due to the influx of Nomads and others during the winter months so I would certainly be checking with doctors if you consider you may need to call on them.
As for the self imposed isolation that is expected of us, I saw a post on a social media page which although is probably funny, it is also very true.
From the page..
So the good people self isolate for two weeks then head out again only to have the possibility to mix with infected people who cared less about their own condition...and this will fix things, how???
I think our parliament needs a tie rail for unicorns outside at the steps.

If you do travel wear gloves filling up with fuel. Over the years I've seen a few do this anyway. I do this when filling additional containers.
On ABC a fuel station teller said he typically serves 700 people in a shift. That's a lot of hands on the Bowser!

My husband puts gloves on when he gets diesel in our car but I really think that, with him it is just a truckie thing.
In retail and some other businesses handling money was high risk when it came to the spread of disease but the use of plastic cards has probably cut this risk down in many areas.
Probably pubs and clubs and the dreaded poker machine would still be classed as a bad area. We could all think of many other activities that we need to be careful of.
I was talking to a van park manager yesterday who is in two minds as to what to do when the influx of people begin due to the mass exodus of retirees all head to the north. His wife is particularly concerned of transactions in the office and is worried even now with backpacker visitors. God forbid the spread of any virus during a happy hour session of sharing dips, cakes and any food.
Then when I really think about it, in days gone by we all made sure we did attend to hand and face hygiene and a clean home and ensuring we eat the correct foods which provide the vitamins to help fight any virus and maybe this should be our collective approach today rather than all staying indoors and hoping the virus will go away.
Sorry, just thinking aloud.

I must admit that I haven't given much thought to heading to the tropics during these worrying times but did over the last couple of days. I'm starting to think it might be best to stay put this year I don't want to get to the tropics and get stranded there through the summer.
Thinking, thinking, thinking.
As for the fuel and gloves etc, I always use disposable gloves when filling up with diesel then after paying and back in car I give a quick wash with hand sanitiser. Problem is now, I haven't been able to get sanitiser for weeks and I went to get more gloves this morning and none in the shop.

The bridge club is now shutting down for the forseefores future regardless of food handling!

Listerine 21.6% alcohol so about $32 per litre if 40% alcohol.
Aldi vodka $30 700ml so $42.86 per litre. Assuming 40% alcohol.
So a bit dearer but you are not doubling up on resources & wasting space.

I might be in self isolation but I do get the odd visitor drop in to check on me.....
Was in Victor Harbor SA today. It is near deserted. During the hour I sat in the main Street having lunch only one car drove past and no one walking on the footpaths. All the shops I spoke with are screaming out for customers and seem to be quite despondant about the coming weeks.
It seemed weird walking tonight past empty restuarants that are normally quite busy.
I am told that no infections have been reported here yet, but that there has been in nearby Yankalilla and also around Mt Barker area.
Hope normality returns sooner rather than later.
