I do not know much about this tap and go.
But
I just wave my card across the terminal and then I am on my way.
Our card has a $20000 limit.
Nearly used the limit when we paid our annual health insurance last month
Why the revenue from such high revenue government income from for example ""gambling"" can not be transferred to our hospital and medical systems.
One wonders where all those dollars go....
Also who receives the dollars dividends from gambling State or Federal.
Enough of me waffling.

My health insurance is paid by DD annually. The day it was paid I got a text that night saying that HIF is waiving all payments until 1/10/20!!!! Of course they havent refunded my payment. Ah well.....At least the GOv $750 was in my account by then so all good.

some retail outlets have a surcharge if you use 'tap and go' - Aldi charge so it pays to ask

Lucky you, HBF in WA is not waiving payments but they are waiving the proposed yearly increase .

Are you sure they weren't just deferring the annual fee increase from 1/04/20 to 1/10/20 like most/all health funds did.

If you T&G a debit card (as opposed to a credit card) it is processed in the same manner as a credit card which is why some merchants add a surcharge. If instead of using T&G you insert the debit card and enter a PIN the surcharge is not added.

Even if you use a debit card you pay a fee for tap & go. I put a scalpel blade through the aerial around the card so it can't tap & go. Pin only so no fees on my card!
Tap & go is a third party service & there are transaction fees on every card.

Whenarewethere how did you find where the aerial was. I have tried in the past with a bright light but can not see it. I want to disable ours too.

Our credit card is with NAB. WE do online banking. If you go to your online banking account, choose "manage cards" there is a tab where you can disable the tap and go. Or enable it, whatever you want to do.
I am sure other banks would be the same

An antenna symbol is printed on the face of the card - it looks like four concentric semi circles. Drill a 6mm hole through it and that should be the end of your T&G.

There is one good reason to Tap & Go. Less contact by not having to using the key pad for pin number. Just another way of reducing the spread of this terrible virus. Think about it before you start drilling holes my fiends. Many retailers are asking customers to use Tap & Go for that very reason.

The aerial runs more or less around the edge of the card, it's a bit of printed copper wire circuit. I can see it very a very bright LED torch even though the card is very dark.

I've put a scalpel blade through 5 times just to make sure! I always pay cash & don't use online banking. Still write cheques for birthday presents to nieces etc so they can't spend it straight away!
It has become increasingly difficult as more shops are not taking cash anymore.

Could not agree more. Was just saying to my wife how dumb people are who pay with a card and then enter their pin number? I have not noticed one store cleaning the keypad before or after someone has used it.

In the Woolworth store (my local) they are wiping the counter tops and keypad between each customer. as you enter the store your hands are sprayed and if you use a trolley that is also wiped down. all takes time but I think they are doing ok
