"At the Bronx Zoo, Nadia, her sister Azul, two Amur tigers and three African lions developed dry coughs, and some of the cats exhibited some wheezing and loss of appetite, Dr Paul Calle, the zoo's chief veterinarian said.
He said the zoo conducted the coronavirus test to be thorough.
Only Nadia was tested because it takes anaesthesia to get a sample from a big cat. Her temperature was taken at the same time, and it was normal, Dr Calle said.
The seven sickened cats live in two areas at the zoo, and the animals had contact with the same worker, who was doing OK, zoo officials said."

Very interesting. Thank you.
We do not have animals, now thinking should I empty the bird bath which is our entertainment each day watching the activity around the bath from several different bird species.

I believe it's been clear for some time that dogs can catch it - I don't think the transmission path is certain though.
A big worry; if dogs and cats can get it AND pass it to humans (and why could they not?) then it will be close to impossible to stop...?

Authorities have already announced that although cats can be infected, they cannot pass it on.

That was a good find Dorian, so thanks for that
I wonder to myself, if the virus had jumped from the handler, to the food, to the animal
From memory, so do not quote me on this
From the early days, some authorities had been saying, although you can not catch Coronavirus from your pets, wash your hands, after handling them
I also seem to recall, that at least one country, who's population normally eat cats and dogs, have banned their people from eating them

Can poultry and cattle get it? If so, then will we all become vegetarians? Or will fish be safe?

As I understand, the virus affects only mammals, so birds [poultry] and fish are fine. Don't know about marsupials but as they're not mammals [but 1 step away] they're probably safe if you've possums in the ceiling or backyard. [I'm not sure what possum tastes like, but kangaroo is ok]

Do you really believe that, especially when you consider it was started by a bat. Apparently. Personally I dont know what to believe except that we are in a world of trouble until a vaccine is found.

Pet owners and vets warned after cat tests positive to coronavirus:
Dr Crawford said vets in particular needed to take extra care because of their high exposure to cats during veterinary procedures and must be cautious until the risk of infection from animals was fully understood.
"We don't know what sort of level of virus it would take to transmit it to humans from a pet. Mostly transmission would be probably from their coat, the same way as you would from a door or anything else that you touch," she said.
For a start folks, the cat got it forum its handler. The cat passed it onto no one.....The animal handle did not wash his hands???? Don't worry and perpetuate unfounded alternative truth.
Bats are known to carry diseases. All animals, bats, rats, and including the dogs that lick their own arses, and then some enjoy them licking their face. But none of these animals has been proven to have started the Covid 19 disease. Don't worry and perpetuate unfounded alternative truth.
They thought it came from eating these lizardy things as well in their wet markets whatever that means. Nothing proven. may be its their own regular hygiene habits.... who knows.
Lets wait till the pro's find the answer. Posing half truths and simple remedies is only propagating conjecture. The government is saying to read their official sites for info.
It is not so much conflicting as varied and getting updated regularly.
I would have thought that the zoo keeper would have exercised social distancing as a matter of routine, so one wonders what the transmission path was.

Coronavirus: 'Keep cats indoors', vets recommend:
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-52204534
Veterinary scientists have recommended cat owners keep their pets indoors to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
But the British Veterinary Association said "owners should not worry" about any risk of infection from their pets.
"There isn't a single case of a pet dog or cat infecting a human with Covid-19," Dr Angel Almendros, from City University in Hong Kong, told BBC News.
Research has shown cats may be able to catch the virus from other cats.

Perhaps the authorities do not know everything, about the Coronavirus, at the moment, especially how/if/when, it mutates
I will lean towards the side of caution, I shall follow the advice, as though pets have/can/will catch the virus
So thanks for the info, Dorian
Damn! Fewer targets.
