It is 12 months ago today that we left on our last six month tour through Queensland and wishing that it was happening again today.
Had a few short trips after arriving back home and also fitted in one a few months ago.
Van is all prepared, washed, waxed, brakes and bearings done etc. Instead I shall have to get the diary out and relive the Qld trip day by day, get the photos out etc.
I even got the firepit out this afternoon, had happy hour and then cooked our tea on the coals.
Not quite the same but it'll have to do for now.
Am I the only one to have it this bad?
Joe.

I bet you are not alone with that desperation. We and friends are also ready to roll as soon as restrictions are lifted. But it will be nice to see what my garden looks like in Winter, as we have not seen it for the last 10 years.

G'day Joe,
No I don't think you're the only one in the boat.
We were to go to Toowoomba but that's off. I left the van out of the carport when we came home in Feb as we were going "a few days ago" so it looks like I'll have to play dodgem cars with the roof supports, gate post again. very soon.
Stay where you are, it's possibly safer & definitely cheaper. The cops down in SE Qld are vicious so I see, here in the north they are not so bad although a bloke driving to Ingham the other night (at 3am) donated $1337 to the State's coffers.
And these days it is a lot easier to stay in touch with family, unlike when our kids were little.
All the best, hopefully it won't go on forever.
A question - is your van aluminium or composite fibreglass? If the latter, what do you polish it with?

No the van is not composite fibreglass.

I don't miss what I don't have. Ooops, we are talking about travelling
I'll give myself a smack for that!
I also miss the travel but should be just about ready to arrive in Townsville next Wednesday but not to be. Instead, I am in VIC. I'm not complaining though because I am safe and isolated so doing my bit. I am only 15 minutes away from the supermarket when needed and that is a very quick process.
One thing I would like to see set up in supermarkets during this time and wouldn't complain if it stayed in is, one way streets in supermarkets. I find people going both ways are far from 1.5mts apart as they or I pass or worse still, standing there talking
What will I be like in six months if this continues that long, well, I might need to make a booking in a 'special' hospital maybe
Keep Safe out there everyone.

thank you very much for the tip on Nu-Finish.
I have just watched a couple of videos.
We have the van and 2 vehicles to use the polish.
This will give me something to do in my ""spare time""

I wonder if a trip to Repco to get a bottle of Nu-finish would qualify as 'essential travel'?

It would be if you included a trip to the supermarket on the way.

We purchased our new motorhome last year and picked it up in November. Unfortunately I've been ill so it sat in our driveway. Then we hit the road to head south, from the Gold Coast, two weeks ago. Only to have everything closed down. So back home. Back in the driveway. Back in a grumpy mood.
I think I'll sue someone. I'm just not sure who!!!!!

Well, there's only one thing for it then... a bottle of Nu-Finish. :)
We had tea in the van in the yard tonight, diesel heater going. Imagined I was in Winton for a few minutes.
I reckon the winter migration next year might be a big one.
Joe.

'Diesel heater going'. A sure sign that you aught to be in Qld right now.
I'm in Brissie & haven't even got out my winter wollies. Still using summer shortie PJs.
My abandoned travel plans for this year would have had us slowly approaching Winton right now. The maps & tourist booklets are strewn across the van table & bed .. detailed planning underway, ready for next year.
We spent last Easter in Bega because I couldn't get into a reasonable spot on the coast due to overcrowding. So much has happened since then.
I am about to dig a cooking pit in the back yard to accommodate the Bedourie Oven ready for a cook out. I can't get the van into the back yard or else it would be there for a pretend camping night.
I can now appreciate why my old Father in Law, after he handed in his licence, would sometimes sit in his old Holden in the back yard. Reliving past memories I suppose.

I've been lighting a fire and cooking a toastie for breakfast 3 or 4 times a week since we got home just before the SA border was closed. Not quite the same but better than nothing

Thanks everyone for the suggestion of Nu-Finish.
I'll get some on a medical, food shop soon - it might let me cut though the air easier.
Our family has joined House Party - it's a chat (with video) system but has games, Guess what I'm drawing, questions on many subjects. And no, while I got quite a few guesses correct, I'm not a Harry Potter fan! The kids think it's great until Grandpa beats them!

I had to give up my love of caravanning for my wifes medical reasons, I thought that I would miss it badly but I have purchased a home in Port Douglas (present location) and stay here until November/December when I return to my NSW home for for 4 months and repeat the cycle.
so I still no longer experience winter and to be truthful, I don't miss the caravan that much now, mind you, the memories still linger and I haven't sold it but have realised that the time has come and will offload it when next down south As life has now moved on to the next chapter.

Made a deposit on our Knaus motorhome month's ago, took delivery on the 3rd of April. No hand over due to this covid thing, so we are still figuring it out as the not all the manual's for it is not for our model. Now we wait.... like all of us out there. There is going to be a huge amount of us just wanting to hit the road after they lift the restrictions. Hope to meet up at sometime in the near future. Stay safe!
