G'day Russell,
Due to the weight and space needed of a washing machine I don't have one. I mainly do hand washing every few days but when doing bedding I use public machines. I wipe bowl out first with disinfectant wipes then add a sanitiser to final rinse. If nothing else, my mind says the machine was clean.
Probably not much help to you sorry.
Keep Safe out there.

Hi Jab; We have one of those little twin tub washing machines that the camping stores sell, we payed around $140.00 for our then and have used it for the last 8 years. I think the brand is " companyon". Very little to go wrong and great for all but the big articles like bed sheets ( these we keep until we are in town or staying at a caravan park and use the laundromat ).

We have a Spheer 2.5kg but at the first chance I get the washing machine our secondhand caravan come with will be replaced with a bigger 3.5kg, just a little taller in size.
Not something we wanted when we were looking for our caravan but boy there is no way it is getting left behind. Very handy.
I have had a 12 volt to 240 volt 1000 watt inverter fitted to the caravan which works a treat when we have a spare 45 litres of water or we hand wash and just spin dry when freedom camping. We do have enough solar/batteries to wash on a sunny day.
The washer machine is one of those little spoilers about 10 in front of a TV.

My wife has a washing machine for small stuff when out in the boonies - ME.
20 litre bucket, lid with hole in centre for Plumbers plunger which has a few holes in the rubber, and after a day of swishing about in water and Earth Friendly (or something like that) washing goop, in the en-suite, I set up out side with coffee and cake and swish away for 20 or so mins.
It also has a Spin (wring) dryer via right and left wrists which work in opposite rotation with rinsing before being put into our Solar Powered dryer or may be wind powered dryer under the annex if rain is imminent.
Was real cheap at the time too!
Cheers - Ian

We had a RV washer dryer in our motor home. Handy at times but we always needed a campground or generator power. And plenty of water. But the biggest negative was the heat and humidity it caused inside.

we have a little twin tub and find it great - uses about 20 litres of water and the water gets saved with each spin and poured back into the wash bowl. The spinner is great and means clothes dry quite quickly on a line strung up b/w trees.

At build, we had a washing machine installed - Dometic frontloader Has been in use weekly since we hit the road in 2011.
I believe it takes 3 kg, but I know it takes one dooner cover (equal to two sheets), and two pillow slips in one load, fitted sheet and two pillow slips in second load. 2 x large bath towels in another. Then, there is our clothes, just sort accordingly, Admittedly, we need to be on power and have available water, but we have pumped from a clean creek and used generator.
Only use Laundromat if/when we go through a town and have not water available for machine. Or if we are in caravan park, we do the sums between unpowered site and use of laundry, or powered site and use own machine (this usually wins)
Well the plug in brigade is alive and well.
How about you inverter junkies get the bucket and plumbers plunger and get your arms moving?
Or buy one of these which does a fine job. We bought one- eco spin

Hi Jab,
We stayed alongside a couple at Wyndham a few years ago.
They had a 100 Series TLC - in the back was a big white box. We discovered what it was - their auto washing machine from home; they pulled it out & did their washing in it.
For the sake of a few dollars, we used the caravan park's machines.
Normally like Doug, we wash our smalls out at night in the bathroom & leave them to dry on the van.
Another couple we saw on the Carpentaria Highway were raiding the tanks set up to supply drinking water to travellers to fill up numerous containers of all shapes & sizes so they could do their washing at their next camp! Of interest to me was they had a single axle van but had two 20L containers on the rear bumper (along with a jerry can of fuel), another two on the front, others were put inside! Weight?? "No you don't worry about that!"
But you meet all sorts on the road, don't you?

Using the washing machine to spin dye our clothes has been the best part, my hands are stuffed, have no real ability in wring clothes out.
Thats where the inverter and the washing machine comes into play.

We have a 2.5kg top loading electric wash. Machine in the back corner of the van.
The Dee uses woolwash ( $2 ) and we get a couple of washes from the recycle water. W
Bush camping.....We carry 2 x 20 litres of water and we hook up the Honda Gennie. All this is very convenient and has saved us $$ to go towards the payment of the W.Machine and Gennie.
Happy days are coming..... But don't know when?????

We have the little twin tub machine. Is a little beauty and spins the clothes very dry. Sits beside the bed when travelling or back of tug . placed in annexe when required as it is very light and runs off 300 w inverter. Good trick is to use for storage as it holds a lot and also when camping put dirty clothes straight in it don't need laundry bag. And wash as needed.

If you were in WA I could give you one of those dometic ones that dunmowin has. It bashed itself around the cupboard it was in until the mounts broke. Took it out and intend using the space for diesel heater. Hardly used like new.
Stretch , ours is now almost 9 years on the road, has experiences many "tracks" etc. Not at all like your photos. All depends on the caravan manufacture, the install and the mountings
PS; our diesel heater is installed separately
