AndAmazon is right on Walmarts heels and growing faster!!! How Big is Walmart?
Who shops at Walmart? This This should boggle your mind!
And Probably scare you as well!!!!!
1. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day
****Example... Woolworths 2019 revenue was B$59.98 ( Billion)
2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute! *** I wonder what their shares cost to buy.
3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.
****I sure hope they are referring to Target USA and not Target Australia
4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Ma
**** Their theme song must be "" Ours is bigger than yours""
5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer, and most can't speak English.
****But hey!! the $$$$ speaks all languages
6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.
**** But can they stay there.
7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger Safeway combined, keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.
*** Again...No doubt their theme song is "" Ours is bigger than yours""
8. During thissame period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.
*** Still would want to own shares in Walmart.
9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.
**** What about MacDonalds.??
10. Wal-Mart has approx. 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.
****WOW !!!They opened an average of 4 stores each week.
11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur At a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion).
12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.
***We have 2 Costco stores in Queensland and they are more than 25 miles from us.
13. The value of product for Wal-Mart passing through the port of San Diego each year is a larger sum than 93% of ALL countries Gross National Product (GNP). and that is only ONE port... one way thats how Wal-Mart gets it's stuff.
**** Just wondering if they has a CFMEU in USA
14. Of the 1.6 million employees, only 1.2% make a living above the poverty level.
**** And we are suppose to believe that America abolished Slavery back in the 1800's

16. The official U.S. Government position is that Wal-Mart'sprices are no lower than anyone else's when compared to a typical families weekly purchase. That's the view of the statisticians at the Bureau Of Labor Statistics (BLS) responsible for calculating the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
*** My guess is the power of Advertising... something like ""Hardly Normals"" business
17. 92% of everything Wal-Mart sells, comes from China. Another 4% comes from Chinese owned companies in the U.S. or in 3rd world Countries.
**** What would/should/ could happen if Mr Trump closed the trade with China.
18. Wal-Mart and MOST large companies, take out life insurance on it's employees, without their knowing.
If an employee dies, ALL the insurance moneys go to the companies. (i.e. An employee making $18,000 per year dies, and the company might make as much as $1 million. Most often these monies, coming from what is commonly referred to as "Dead Peasant Life Insurance Policies", is paid out to executives as bonuses. A common practice, unknown by the average consumer.
**** Obviously Walmart has great work place practices for the Slaves.
19. Wal-Mart now averages a "profit" (not sales) of $36 billion per year.
*** NO mention of what their Tax Bill is or if they have off shore banking.
20. Let Wal-Mart bail out Wall Street. If not, consider shopping someplace else.
*** Can't do so, as we have no Walmart in Australia. Thank Godness.
If we closed all the Wal-mart stores, would China go bankrupt?

We lived a total of 8 years in the USA. All I can say is be very wary of the statements in the above post. Many of them are false or very misleading.

True or false, who cares. I just enjoy the pictures that often end up on the web of some of their "more glamorous clientele" :)

Walmart is a one stop shop. And has very competitive prices. There's no doubt that it attracts some very interesting folks.

One of my 'excursions' in Hawaii was to a Wallmart .
It seemed like a combined very large BigW, Dan Murphy's and Woolworths in the same store.
I picked up a range of their white wines to try. Very cheap, but so is all alcohol in Hawaii. Reasonable quality for the price but the prices are so low that I mostly just picked up what I needed from the most convenient of the dozens of ABC stores. We needed a lot because we drank copious quantities, sitting on our balcony overlooking Waikiki beach. Love Hawaii.
Most surprising was the range of rifles on the shelves. This included Air rifles made to look like assault weapons located near the toys section.
Unfortunately no Walmartians there (if you don't count us) but I had my camera ready.
BTW their current share price is USD $122.94. I believe that the name is derived from 'Waltons' family name.

It's a high turnover low margin business. In January 2020 their turnover was US$141 billion, but their net profit margin was only 2.9%. It's similar for their annual figures. Not what I would call an attractive investment. But that's typical for retail.

Many businesses in the USA are low margin high turnover types. Whereas here in Aust most businesses put margin before turnover. I have bought and sold a number of vehicles in the USA. In all cases they worked on a very small percentage. I cashed in a 5 year old RAM pickup recently. I got $16500.00 cash in hand for it. They sold it 2 days later for $18500.00. We purchased our motor home from a large dealer who looked for a $20000.00 margin on a $500000.00 motor home. Try that in Australia!
Wal-Mart is typical of make a small margin as quick as possible.
Item 5 in the above post is so far from the truth that it discredits all the other items.

I hate to say this, but it is today's piece of useless information. Bear in mind that the USA has over 300 million people and Australia has just over 25 million people.

I personally don't like any of these crowds!
Even the Govt COVID-19 app utilises the spare storage capacity of Amazon - yes, the Govt says all of the data will be removed but although I might trust them, I don't trust Amazon.
Yes the stuff might be cheaper, but it costs you to belong (Walmart) + consider the effects on the population (including yours & my relatives) in the future when they can't get a job when all of the opposition companies have been driven to the wall!
While it's nice to save a few dollars but what are the long term costs - unemployment at 20+%?
I live in a large regional centre that has experienced high unemployment (the youth, even higher) due to the mining down turn, the actions of an infamous politician, floods & now the Corona-virus.
House prices have dropped $50,000-$100,000 - making us reconsider shifting to be closer to family as it is now out of the question.

Great post Warren...so many people dont seem to understand that buying cheap spit from overseas means that that product has not been produced in Australia,so therefore nobody in Australia has been employed to produce it.If a manufacturer can't sell the product they produce, they obviously will close that factory. All the employees are now out of a job,and perhaps on the dole. The dole payment, although overly generous in my opinion, does not allow recipients to buy quality Australiian products,so they choose to purchase cheap spit from overseas, causing even more factories to close. Before the Ford factory closed,I used to live in Geelong, and the staff carpark at the Ford plant had few Fords in it! And then the staff wondered why Ford chose to close the plant!Spare me.... For many, too much thinking involved perhaps, but simple logic suggests that it is unrealistic to expect others to buy quality Australian products to keep you in a job, while you continue to buy only overseas spit.Cheers.

Warren - Pat 01 Walmart isn't a member store. It doesn't 'cost' to shop there. Maybe you are confusing it with Cosco.

Also bear in mind the fact that Walmart was kicked off by one man "Sam opened the first Walmart in 1962 at the age of 44 in Rogers, Arkansas."
The man is to be admired for his Foresight.
"The Road to Walmart
Sam Walton was born in 1918 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. In 1942, at the age of 24, he joined the military. He married Helen Robson in 1943. When his military service ended in 1945, Sam and Helen moved to Iowa and then to Newport, Arkansas. During this time, Sam gained early retail experience, eventually operating his own variety store.
In 1950, the Waltons left Newport for Bentonville, where Sam opened Waltons 5&10 on the downtown square. They chose Bentonville because Helen wanted small-town living, and Sam could take advantage of the different hunting seasons that living at the corner of four states had to offer.
Inspired by the early success of his dime store, and driven to bring even greater opportunity and value to his customers, Sam opened the first Walmart in 1962 at the age of 44 in Rogers, Arkansas.
Changing the Face of Retail
Sam's competitors thought his idea that a successful business could be built around offering lower prices and great service would never work. As it turned out, the company's success exceeded even Sam's expectations."
And Walmart stores are generally very welcoming of motorhomers who want to overnight in their parking lot. In our travels it is our favourite RV park chain - no reservations required, zero cost, no cancellation fee, good security, most comprehensive rv park shop ever,....
And Amazon is right on Walmarts heels and growing faster!!!
