We are planning to escape the Melb winter provided border restrictions are lifted?? We have planned to journey up to Hervey Bay and then to Bargara near Rockhampton. After that we would like to head towards Mackay and then inland to travel back to Vic. Does anybody have any suggestions or recommendations of good parks and places to see between Rockhampton and Mackay?
Thanks

Might have to put that on hold .latest news reports quotes QLD premier Annastacia Palaszczuk saying borders could stay shut till september .

Thanks for your response. This was always in the back of our minds and I guess it is a day by day situation. We were not intending to travel until after mid July so we hope things will improve for everyone's sake.

Jangar - I am assuming that you are aware that Bargara is about 300 klms south of Rockhampton!!! Bargara is 14 klms east of Bundaberg - nice spot - go turtle watching at the right time of the year.

Talk is that July, we Queenslanders will be able to travel around our own state. No confirmation yet as to when borders will open

Yeah thanks for that- I should have also said that after staying at Bargara we then stay at Yeppoon. My error. Still looking at what to do after Yeppoon (Rocky)

There are not a lot a good C/P's between Yeppoon and Mackay as the highway wanders inland a fair amount of the way and coastal spots are few and far between.
when I travel that way, I generally either stop at Clairview (very basic beachfront park but nice and friendly), no shopping facilities at Clairview though as it is rather isolated, the other place is St.Lawrence which is a free campsite but nevertheless beautiful and again isolated.

We enjoyed the St Lawrence low cost camp. $12.50 per night and reasonable facilities. Stayed there last July, but it is currently showing as closed on Wiki, probably due to Cv19.

There's a basic park at the back of the Marlborough pub for $5 pp pn including a shower. Meals are great. Good for an overnighter. The other place I suggest you might want to look at (if you don't need power or a shower) is the camp at Carmila Beach - $13 pn with a drop toilet and a dump point. Check out a website called indefiniteleave.com.au for a video review.
