Hi all, has anyone got a Stone Stomper fitted to their caravan and if so, can I get some feedback. I am looking to buy one also, so if anyone has one for sale (providing feedback is good)...
I have a 200 Series Landcruiser and van is 2.1mts from back of car....

Yes I have used one for about 10 years. Mine are DIY by me "Trampoline style Stone Guard" But I have looked at the Stone Stomper ones on vehicles which are almost exactly like my DIY ones. They keep the stones and a fair amount of dust going under the van. Easy to fit and remove. They just clip on and off and even when getting into the back of my D-max with everything attached is nor problem. Just unclip one side of the Stone Stomper and get into the Canopy.
There are previous posts on Stone Stompers or Stone Guards Try either of those headings in "search" good reading all the past posters on this subject as well.

G'day Branchie, are you talking about the one that fits to the Aframe of the van or the one that fits to the Tow Bar of the car ??
I was offered one for the car but found it was rather heavy and even though I really appreciated the offer from a good friend I declined due to the weight. It looked like it had a bit of age on it so the new ones might be lighter.
The idea of them is good and I see many of both around. I also see many home made versions. All seem to be capable of doing what they are supposed to.

We've use one for the last 4 years, it certainly reduces the stone chips on the front of the van, we travel a lot on unmade roads (gunbarrel, connie sue outback NSW, Vic etc).
Easy to put on, we leave it attached to the van during layup.
Christian is the person to deal with at Stone Stomper and a very good person to deal with, excellent service.
I have no connection with them other than a satisfied customer.
Cheers

We have had one now for 7 years and couldnt be any happier with ours . No more stone chips to front of caravan or on the rear of the L/C . We have traveled on some serious gravel roads and tracks around OZ and the Stone Stomper seems to keep the dust down low, less cleaning.
Wouldnt hesitate to recommend the Stone Stomper.

The best thing since sliced bread, I think they are easily the best of all the stoneguards around to day, by a mile.
Seriously, they are a great product, we have had them on our last 2 vans, well made and work really well
Made here in Adelaide by Christian who provides terrific service.
They are individually made for each van, so give them a call and they will get you to measure up, a simple procedure they will talk you through.
cheers

Hi Branchie,
Yes we have one for our van. We have a 200 series with the off road van having an extened A frame. We only use it on trips on gravel road trips. We still got stone chips on the lower/ outer edges of the van 200mm either side.
I use a full Rhino wire basket 2200mm x 600mm sitting right under the front boot. We carry fire wood and light bulky items which helps us.
In 2019 we tripped NSW across to WA, Up the west coast to Marble Bar.Down through the Centre to Roxby Downs and back home WITHOUT the Stone Stomper on. All bitumen.
No extra chips.
On first trip with the stomper on We filled the mesh with Black top mud. Which in turn sank the middle section of the mesh. Without knowing. It Ripped the mesh open by grounding the mesh with the weight on it.Took ages to remove the mud/clay (Sets Like Concrete)with long handled shovel. The stomper wasn't designed to carry 40kg plus of clay pan in its belly.
Our insurance covered the Replacement unit total.
Christian Is great to work with.He had our original plans on computer still. Forwarded the EFT and We had the replacement within a week.
The only drawback IMO is the dusting when accessing the rear of the 200 and boot of the van with the Basket to reach over.
Easy to fit? YES.
Would recommend. YES.
So ask yourself where do we want to go first up.Then you will know whats right for you. We love the gravel roads others fear to take their vans.

While I am towing a hybrid style camper trail (Vista RV Crossover XL) behind a Pajero, as the majority of our trips are on unsealed roads, we use a Stone Stomper and swear by it.

H Branchie,
I haven't used the bought product but have seen quite a few out in caravan parks - all bringing praise from the owners.
When I had our Jayco Eagle, Mk3 version of my stone guard was a "home made" stone stomper. Yes it worked, was a lot cheaper but where it failed was the exhaust started to melt the shade cloth I used! I had gas injection on the GQ Patrol & while it burnt the fuel in the cylinders more efficiently, the exhaust ran a bit hotter.
So from there, I think my last stone guard was a Mk5 - just need to modify it for our new car (Mk5.5?)!!

We also have a Stone Stomper, and can say it does what it is supposed to.
As to getting into the back of the vehicle, you can just unclip the 2 outside attachment points of the Stomper. It is then totally out of your way, and literary takes 2 seconds.
