Hi Glassies. It's been a few years since we traveled that road. 4WD was not necessary but it was pretty rough, particularly after the turn off to a mine. Take it easy and enjoy Lawn Hill NP. Someone will have traveled there more recently I'm sure and will have more current information.

Yes you will get into Lawn Hill with a 2 wheel drive, they are dirt roads in, via 2 directions(check map), drive to the conditions, (corrigations), and drop your tyre pressures down and slow down. There are a couple of water crossings so phone ahead to find out more at Adeles Grove camp ground, the time of year will determine their depths, usually not deep at all. From memory I think entering via Gregory Downs would be the best option for 2x2, you can leave caravans here at the pub also. If you are towing a caravan in, again quite do able, but with care. Minor repairs, tyres etc are available usually at Adeles Grove camp ground only 10km from Lawn Hill, a good place to stay if doing overnight. Phone first because they had major fire there a while back and maybe rebuilding. Great place to visit for a few days if you have the time or make the time you won't be dissappointed regards Ian

No problems taking 2wd into Lawn Hill if you go via Gregory. Its a dirt road, but usually in reasonable condition and certainly nothing that requires 4wd, just slow down and drive to the conditions. 2wd and on road vans go there all the time.

Adels Grove has rebuilt the main building that burnt down last year.
People from Mt Isa with conventional 2wd cars quite often go up there for long weekends and the like - via Cloncurry, Burke & Wills and Gregory.
As others have said - just slow down and drive to conditions - and do not overload your rig.
At the moment, I think that area is still in lockdown - like Cape York is a biosecurity region because of the local aboriginal communities.

Haven't done it since 2017 it was smooth as (just graded) but, in 1996 did 3 tyres - in 1999 fellow Safari-ist did 4 tyres - You need a report (Try Gregory Downs Pub 07 4748 5566) a week before intended travel.

Possum3, you reminded me that last time at Adeles Grove I was getting a gas bottle filled at the workshop. Looked at the pile of discarded tyres and asked the bloke "what tyres do you find are blown most?" His answer was "Coopers, by far". The least seen ... "BFG". I don't want to start a tyre war on the forum but found that interesting. Guess what I've got on the BT50 and the van?? Cheers, Bob
