Hello everyone,
Hope youre all keeping fit and well at this time.
Im new to caravanning and only done a few short trips away locally. Im planning to head from Geelong to Gold Coast in late July and taking the trip easy.
Any suggestions for suggested routes, overnight stop-overs would be greatly appreciated.
Ive got a 16 New Age Wallaby pop top and pulling it with an Isuzu D-Max twin cab.
Regards,

Welcome to the gang Wayne, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I head to Townsville from VIC each year and just head up the Hume and Pacific Highways. Easy as. Just keep in mind though that the QLD border will be opened all being equal not long before then so the roads, whatever way you go will be crowded. If you go that way try and go through Penant Hills (Sydney) mid Sunday morning as it is less traffic and stress.
If you have UHF radio in your Dmax keep in mind, once of the Pacific Hwy the truckies use channel 29 not 40. Also and as well even, talk to the trucks and help them to get past you if they want.
I have decided to stay put in Nth East VIC this winter and not add to the crowds on the road. I also admit that I don't trust the CV19 mongrel of a thing. It's not very choosy and could come out of left field at any moment.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Warby Ovens State Park > Booth Road > Wenhams Track. We have used it a few times, has a good toilet block. The track is more of a dirt road but very dusty. Very poor mobile reception, almost non existent. There is a revegetation enclosure next to the camping you can walk in & all the plants have been named.
Last year we travelled many times between Melbourne and the Gold Coast. We have gone different routes and there is not a lot to choose between them in distance or time, but we found the most pleasant route to be the Newell Highway. Shepparton - Tocumwal - Newell Highway - Goondawindi - Cunningham Highway - Gold Coast. There are plenty of stops along the way that are less expensive than the coastal route and if you're taking it slowly there is a lot to see, including the "Dish" near Parkes. We recommend a stop at the Gwyder CP in Moree for the hot springs on site for a relaxing soak.
