I've just been doing a bit of a dig around in the Search areas regarding hoses & as one member mentioned "Talking about excess weight is like flogging a dead horse (with the appropriate cartoon to go with it)."
I used to carry a 10m water hose & the same in the sullage hose but have been caught a few times in caravan parks where the facilities ie the tap & drain are far more than that away. So I bought another 10m water hose & similar length but smaller diameter sullage hose. All of this adds to that dreaded six letter word. Unfortunately it is not until you've been guided to your site that you find there might be an open circuit between your van & the tap. Carrying those expensive flat hoses might save a bit of w

Do you need mains volume of water out of the tap or can you get away with a reduced volume over a longer time?
I have two 7mm ID 6 metre lengths (orange) air hoses, 12 metres in total plus a few metres of blue hose. You could modify the garden fittings to suit a smaller hose.
For my air/water OCD cleaning setup I modified a garden hose fitting to utilise PVC hose, this is being syphoned so doesn't need a hose clamp, but the same fitting will take 7mm ID air hose & work pressurized.
These air hoses take up a fraction of the space & are a lot lighter than a garden hose.
I carry 2 x full length food grade fresh water hose
(Some places like Mount Isa, it is a longish way from the curb, to the potable water tap)
I carry 1 x full length grey water drain hose, plus one short (3 meter) length of drain hose
I also carry a bucket for the grey water, to water the trees
I have never actually used, the long length of grey water hose, and seldom use the short length of grey water hose
If I was using caravan parks all the time, I would probably just carry a short length, of each type of hose

I am a 90% CP user & find that my 3 x 8m lengths of both sullage & water pipes are sufficient. I do however carry a similar length of conduit that fits neatly into the sullage pipe for occasions where I need the extra length.
My van has 2 sullage outlets but I can connect them together to change to a single outlet which gives me extra length from the two pipes plus I have the rarely used spare pipe & the piece of conduit if I really need it.
On a recent trip when at a showgrounds I found that I needed extra water hose. I thought about buying a spare garden hose but in the end I just filled up my tanks instead.

Hi.
We did have a flat grey water hose in a wind up container it come with the secondhand caravan, rinsing it out used a fair bit of water after use, I had a few negitives about it including the weight, storage and smell in the boot. It moved on.
We do a mixture of camping options, showgrounds, caravan parks and free camping.
Now carry.
1x 15 metre water hose cut into a 6 metre and 9 metre. The short one gets the most use by far.
We brought a new 10mtre grey water hose this year, the last cheap one only lasted 8 years and is lighter by far, I slide it up in rhs of the chassic but prefer to use a bucket and water the shrubbery.

G'day Warren, I hope you are both well?
I have two 10mt drinking water hoses and fittings all from Hoselink and use one or both, depending on tap location. I also have a 5mt length if that close to tap. I have grey water hose used for washing machines, I think, in a house that is in 5x2mt lengths with joiners and they are from the big green shed.
I have had this set up now for 6 years and seems to work well. I only use both 10mt lengths when at my daughters in Townsville. Everything just snaps together easily with the Hoselink fittings. Not cheap but worth it IMO. Weight is not all that much really.
Yeh! I know, off to the naughty room for saying that other W word. Not the W word, the W word.
Keep Safe out there.

I think, just take it, really, the extra weight would amount to about 3-4 kilos.

Thanks for your responses.
Tonight we are in Barcaldine for at least two nights, heading northwards. It was freezing last night at Mitchell with a coating of frost on the car this morning. If I had come on to our site one way, the hose length would have been shorter but ease is getting in meant going around the other way. Used 1 of water hose, both sullage hoses joined (was only short with the one hose by a metre - B.... Murphy, again).
Jonathon, you don't find the air hoses too rigid?
Doug, yes both ok - with normal "Oldies aches & pains". I'm looking forward to warmer more humid weather to be stop my nails from splitting!! The "new, safe(?)" suspension courtesy of Isuzu is not giving us a good ride - will be looking at something better soon. Some of the roads (bitumen highways) up here are rather rough in places! At least I've improved the AM radio reception by adding a normal aerial.
