Hi all, any advice on overnight accommodation along the Hume Hwy between Syd & Vic? We are moving to Tassie with our two cars & a caravan, so will need easy turn & parking access. We can't stay in the van as it will be full stuff. A nice quiet B&B or motel. Any advice would be great.

Sydney to Port Melbourne quite doable one day so you would in reality only need one overnight stop - I would suggest the town of Holbrook NSW (about 80-100 K north of Border) quite town just off the express way - There is a hotel there sorry can't remember it's name.

Welcome to the gang Dreamer1, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Holbrook CVP is also very nice indeed with lovely cabins and heaps of room for your CV and car. It is just behind the big servo. OR You could go about another 1.5 hours and slip across the border to Glenrowan CVP. Also has nice little cabins with room to park the CV and car but you would need to take proof as to where you came from. Make sure you ring either place first though.
From Glenrowan you are about 2.5hours from the good ship Spirit. You might also need that proof and Spirit booking to get into Melbourne area.
Edit....If you choose Glenrowan tell them Doug said to ring them. One of two things will happen, they will show you the front gate or help you out, knowing Kylee and Dean I reckon you are on a winner though.
Keep Safe out there.

Welcome to the forum, Dreamer1
As I am from the west coast, I am not familiar, with accommodation in that section of the country
I have seen the caravan park cabins, which Doug above has mentioned, I also recommend them, as they are not too far off the Hume Hwy
Also as Doug has said, not really that far from the ship, and plenty of room to park your two cars and caravan

I do not like driving much more than 300 km a day
My children are in Port Melbourne/Williamstown
Wollongong to Jugiong - one our favorite places to stay - Go yo The George Hotel for a meal - Great since they did it up (donation box)
Next stop Ludlows reserve - on Lake Hume - nothing there but free on the water - we like it
Then you could
OOPs I just re read your post, you can not stay in your van - I should delete this post

Thanks so much for the advice guys. Very impressed with the great information, from very nice people who are willing to use their time to give it. We will definitely look up those places.
A friend suggested we go out west instead of the Pacific hwy. Any thoughts on that idea?

Personally I think you should get into Victoria while you have the chance before any Borders are closed - When in Victoria you may do some local sightseeing. Perhaps the Apostles?

Hi Possum, yes the boarders are a worry but we are time constrained with removalists pick up dates, so have to leave after they done their bit.
The government website, at the moment, allows you to travel through Vic, with no stops other than fuel. Touring Vic would be a bad idea for entry into Tassie.
Understand your advice on getting through before more restrictions are imposed but hopping we will come under an essential traveler as we are moving house & own land in Tassie. Sure it will come down to each individual case. Cheers for your help.

be very wary of your weights as you have stated the van is going to be "full" of stuff, doesn't take much to make your setup unsafe.
