The only grocery store for 500 klm was burnt last Sunday & groceries will be in short supply, until stocks start rolling in
Stock up at Mount Isa, Alice Springs or Katherine
Free camping north of the town within walking distance of the Tennant Creek Hotel

Hi Possum
Thanks for that advice
I have been through Tennant Creek, twice in the last five years
Each time I did park up for a few hours, just north of the servo at the north end of town, while site seeing/shopping on foot
I was unaware that there was a free camp nearby, can you give us a clue where it is, please
Always sad to hear of an only shop in a town being damaged/forced to close, as it is then harder for the locals

Hi Possum
I drove into the Pebbles free camping ground, just to have a look, but did not stay there
I thought that you was talking about a free camp in the town, close enough to walk to the pub
Are you saying that where I stopped for a few hours, (about 150 meters north of the servo), is now a free camp site
Edit to say, your link to the Pebbles, did not work

Tony, According to the Notice from Tennant Creek the spot where you stayed is a free camp spot. ( I copied and pasted the notice as my original post) reset another link to Devil's Pebbles.

Years ago when I worked at Radio Australia in Darwin, a work club had a joke in their magazine.
First prize - one week in Tennant Creek
Second prize - two weeks there
Third prize - yes you can guess it!

I have never stopped there. I did not want to even touch the ground with my feet. So always made sure I had enough fuel to keep going. I tried not to even look sideways until I got through the town.

We enjoyed our stay in Tenant Creek, went up to the lookout, then out to the open cut mine.
Did a tour of the Battery Hill Mine, they crushed some ore and showed how to extract gold.

Hi Ian
I went through in 2014, going east west As I went through Three Ways, I thought that I may as well see Tennant Creek, as it was not too far out of the way
I went through again in 2018, going north south
Each time it was just a whistle (day time) stop, and a walk around that small town
I did not find it any different, than any other small town
