Over the years, I have seen quite a few Victorian registered caravans being towed by vehicle with other state registrations - mainly NSW tugs. With the Corona Virus and the border closures, I wonder how they are getting on up North now - are they being pulled over by the police as they travel along?

Cost Erad, about less than $70.00 versus maybe $3-400 after the big reduction last year by NSW. Us border folks being told to stay home anyway, so no travel. May as be a Mexican ( whoops, did I say that?)

I always thought it was the law that your vehicles must be registered in the state you live in.

Rocket, Surely by now you would have realized that; the "Law" was only applicable to everyone else not Caravaners & Motorhomers.

Thats very interesting, erad
Do not quote me chapter and verse on this
But...
In Western Australia, I thought that we only had three months, to change the address of any vehicle we purchased, from another state

Caravans can use some other states as a garageing address but cannot use your home address for permanent or longer than 3 months in NSW and save over 400 a year

When we had our van built in Melbourne, we could not even register it in Victoria as we didn't have a Victorian address.
I had to tow it home to WA on a permit, so not sure how the ones that have a Vic rego and live out of that state do it.

If you know someone in Victoria you can use there address if they will let you

We have been in Qld since March, we have never been pulled up by the Police or had any local act negiatively towards us, and yes we have Vic rego.
The rules become ambigeous when you are a grey nomad with no residential address, only a postal address. If you consider that during a year we may reside in 3 or 4 states, could you imagine the inconveinence and expense if you had to change your rego licence etc every 3 months.

Greg 1 we bought ours in Vic but couldn't register there for same reason. Permit to tow home to NSW about 400 clicks and then the blue slip etc to get registered. No rellies in Vic to even try to do it

I'm thinking police will be more interested in your residential address on your drivers license rather than where your van is registered

Well done to the young lady Caretaker
Whist at Goomeri Qld a week ago, Man in a rig pulled into the Showgrounds with Victorian Number plates.
He was asked for a certificate or paper work re his crossing the Qld. border.
He claimed that he had been in Qld for 6 months and he had no such paperwork.
The caretaker politely asked him to move on as he was not welcome at the camp spot due to no paperwork.
He was pissed off with her. I bet he gets accommodation at one of his next stops.
But!!! My view is Congratulations to the caretaker as she was following the procedure laid down by the authorities.
Hope there is more Managers like her in the great out doors.

Sounds like he was dodgy. If he'd truly been in Qld for 6 months he must have purchased fuel, groceries etc and have had some sort of evidence of his claimed period in Qld. Even photos of where he'd been. Surely something could have been provided. Dodgy as by the sound of it. She should have taken his rego and reported him.

I've been in Victoria for the past 14 months but I don't think I can prove that.

You can if you have an online bank account as it shows all your local purchase locations in order.

We tow 23' of Jayco Sterling registered in Victoria for the pricely sum of $79- as opposed to ACT $500+.
We are full time Nomads with no place to call home.
We have a mailing address c/- of family that we use for mail
My drivers licence is Victoria and could have had a 10 years licence again a lot less thn ACT.
The Van is 7 years old and has not had to go over the pits for annual inspections.
While I don't agree with this practice or slack law I am not complaining at this date understanding the issues Vic are having with the Virus.

Not really; I have a NAB account which allows me to have multiple direct debit cards, in my case I have one and my son has another.
