Recently Ken Tame discontinued their roadside assist plans. I have my motorhome registered in NSW and NRMA have a fairly decent policy (up to 10T) for $336 annually plus $55 joining fee.
Looking on the web it doesn't look like too many companies will insure us. Who are other owners using and can recommend?
Thanks.

G'day Fester,
I don't have a motor home but there was a recent post covering the subject of insurance (on page 2). You'll find others in the "Search" tab - something that a lot of new members forget (or don't know about).
Happy looking!

Hi Fester 55
Last two months (or so), I made enquiries about Ken Tame insurance, through the CMCA
I am sure that it was mentioned, that when Ken Tame ceased to supply the roadside assistance plans, then CMCA would select another party to do so
It may therefore pay to ask CMCA, as they may already have someone in mind
I enquired to NRMA and asked if they would cover me for insurance, and roadside assistance, and that my home base was in Western Australia
Unfortunately I did not get a yea or nay, I was just told that, (while travelling) in another state, they used other third party's
As they mentioned RAC as a third party for Western Australia, and as I already know, that RAC will not tow a motorhome, I did not ask for any prices
I stayed with CIL, as it was within the ball park of CMCA new insurer, and I was too lazy to change, as they have looked after me up to now

Tony, thanks for that information. Based on that I'll give the NRMA a miss. I'll check with the CMCA and CIL.

Hi Fester55
Do not give NRMA a miss until you contact them yourself
I went on their website, and there is a box you can type a message into, it could well have been, that I asked my question, in the wrong way
Also, if they get more questions from from other states, they may just see an opening, for more business

Hi Phillip, My advise from CMCA last week was that they are arranging to set up roadside assist via Allianz. The advice was it was very close to coming online.
Allianz I think is the company Ken Tame used, not sure of the politics but I do not care as long as I can obtain breakdown cover at a fair price. cheers,

RACQ in Queensland have added an additional service for Motorhomes and Campervans.
I understand it is on top of the RACQ Ultimate plan and costs an additional $99.00 pa.

NRMA after paying a $55 membership fee is -
Basic roadside assist (smaller vehicles up to 2.5T GVM) $113/yr
Premium coverage (heavier vehicles SUVs etc. up to 3.5T GVM) $204/yr
Ultimate for people towing inc.trailer (up to 10T GVM ) $336/yr
We pay the ultimate roadside assistance and last October NRMA sent a flat top all the way from Taree down to Karuah, then transported the van back to the repairer in Raymond Terrace at no cost.
Based on our experience last year I can recommend their road service but personally I won't be taking out any type of vehicle insurance (car or caravan) with them again.
Cheers

My top RACQ cover recently saved me approx. $1500 in towing fees after the diff let go. RACQ towed cruiser and van back to home address with 2 adults and the dog. About 400km round trip.
