I heard on ABC Radio that not one person was found via the app which was not done the old fashioned way.
They never said how many numbers short the Covid app performed in relation to a manual system.
My guess at about 5%, so a 95% short fall.

I can imagine what people would have said if the government had done nothing when learning that an app was available which may be of assistance in tracing sources of outbreaks. $70 million is a drop in the ocean compared to what this pandemic has cost the country. From what we have seen so far, not one single strategy/prevention has been the silver bullet to stop this disease. It is going to take a long, multi-pronged attack to bring this under control.
If more people followed the rules instead of trying to find a way around them, we may have been in a better place than we currently are.
Have some faith in what the experts are suggesting. That is of course, unless you know better than they do.

That stupid app. was never going to work because the basic premise of using Bluetooth received signal strength indication is flawed and will not provide the information required with anything even remotely approaching accuracy.

I can base my statement on how badly a Bluetooth connection works between our own phones and our unit in our vehicle.

One of the problems I see, being a Minister, or a government member of any sort, is that "one" is not an expert in the many fields required, so they have to rely on the advise of their lower ranks, "Yes Minister" springs to mind here. So while they are on TV, or making speeches in parliament, they are really only mouthing what they have been told.
So it then becomes, hire outside consultant's, you know, those people dressed in suits and ties looking important and wringing their hands together, dreaming of dollars.
I, while working for local council went through this with plant servicing. The expert consultants had their fancy computer program that I had to use, the results etc. all went back for analysis, charts drawn up, meetings etc. etc. They had me doing services on all the equipment every six months, even if the said equipment was never used. I was arguing that this was a waste of time and tax payers money, of course they were paid mega bucks, the program cost a fortune to use, and information returned was bulls-it.
I wanted 12 monthly servicing and based on time or use, but since the council had paid for this they had to use it. Now consider the state or federal governments, multiply this situation a thousand fold, it is east to understand this sort of thing going on all the time.

Angie ... WRT your car bluetooth connection unreliability ..
Perhaps there is something wrong with your car or phone.
The bluetooth in my Mazda3 and an Android phone as well as my old iPhone 5s and now iPhone 10 has worked perfectly for the last 4 years.
But I don't have a lot of faith in the Covid App though I have had it since it was first available.

We had a Falcon sedan with Bluetooth and it worked without problems with our phones which are iPhone 7s.
Our Toyota on the other hand is hit and miss with connection through Bluetooth. We had it looked at by a dealer who in all honesty new less about Bluetooth than our 10 year old grandson.
It connects sometimes and then not others. Once we had to laugh as I had left my phone in the van while we were travelling and a call came in on the handsfree in the Toyota through the phone in the van.
We tested it on a friends Colarado and it worked fine and we have spoken to other Toyota 200 owners and many of them have the same problem. I will say that the Sahara unit we tested on worked better than the one in our GXL.
The Toyota forum members dont speak that highly about the 200 series head unit. Many of them replace the head unit with a better type. We would not bother as stereo sound and other tricks really arent mine nor Robs needs in a vehicle.
I connect to the radio head unit via a wire if I listen to music or podcasts from my phone or use the USB function with music on a stick.
Back to the topic, it is reported that the Covid app is not being used and there seems to be a few excuses as to why it doesnt.
I think Mike Harding was spot on with his comments when the App first appeared.

A friend of mine who is a bit of an electronics guru, replaced his 'head unit' in his ageing Falcon with a unit that he got on line.
Cost him $60.
It gives a AM FM and digital radio reception, Blue Tooth to his phone that works very well, plus a reversing camera complete with guide lines, as well as playing thumb drives. There was a $30 one available but he thought it safer to go with the more expensive one. Of course it has a touch screen & he uses his iPhone GPS app on the rather large screen perhaps 10" x 6".
Looks like I'll have to look at one for the GQ Patrol.

make and model, link to buy would be great. I got a simular unit off evil bay for my coaster that was meant to do the same plus extras, only got 2 of the functions to work and the radio quality was poor, bluetooth dint seem to exsist, reverse camera was iffy. so a link to your mates purchase would be good
