I usually camp in the forest in the middle of nowhere so a decent torch is essential to me.
I have a few small LED torches, including a good head torch, and they are great for use around the camp but I seek a serious torch which *really* lights up the whole area. I bought a $50 Energizer one from Bunnings 12 months past but it's unreliable and when I need it, only once every few weeks or so, the damn thing won't work!
Will you good people please offer suggestions for a quality torch which is:
AA battery only - *NOT* rechargeable At least 2 levels of illumination power Not a head torch Price (within sensible limits) not important Splash-proof, at least

I only have rechargable & these don't comply with your requirements.
But we are very happy with our Olight USB charging torches. They go for a very long time if you don't have them on full brightness. I bought an extra battery for each but have never had to use it, I think about 4 years since purchacing. The S30R is slow to charge so we don't take it camping.
The head torch (H1R) are a warm white which is easier on the eyes.
Olight do a AA torch.

Used to be Mag Arc or nothing, nowdays you can buy a rechargeable LED with focussing lense at K Mart or any camping shop, well under $50 - I have about six (to the child brides chagrin).

Hi Mike,
I here you.
However Mike would you take a look at Roybi LED torch H/L beam. This one can run off a cigarette power point or battery. Will run 4-5 hours on a 5amp rechargeable battery. Will recharge off a generator 1 Hour recharge. You can charge six batteries if you happen to use six./ and run off the generator without the battery connected. For spotting wildlife Fantastic IMO.
Or the 25w Roybi lamp.again turns night into day.And runs as above. ADD a SIX YEAR warranty to both. Hard to beat.
We run Roybi everything except for our honda Ei2000.
WE can do this as I used everything in my working past.
Looks like a reasonable selection though I'd like a look at the X21R - 5,000 Lumens at only $899 too.

Some brands have unregulated voltage so as the batteries go flat the light gets dimmer. This has advantages & disadvantages.
Candlepowerforums has a lot of information.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
I shall buy a Ledlenser, either a P7 or P14, probably the P14.

Yes go the P14 , I have the older ones an M14 and an M14X both run off AA. Great torches.
