I applaud the Webmaster's decision to close the thread. We are living with much disunity at the moment (certainly disagreement) and emotions are rising, people end up saying things they don't necessarily mean. Probably best to leave the CV19 and borders topic alone while blood pressures are (hopefully) still within tolerance...

Indeed. Since the thread dragged on so long I'm only guessing the Webmaster allowed a bit of flexibility with political references, otherwise it would have been shut down long ago. The topic of borders is inevitably going to involve some reference to political decisions, hard to separate them. I think she is right to invoke zero tolerance on comments which become too personal though. No doubt Cindy will use her best judgement should the any of the rule breaking flare up again.

Good on her, very similar sentiments to WA Premier.

If what I had said in that thread, contributed to the thread closing, then I apologise to the Webmaster (Cindy), and the OP Angie (bentaxlebabe)
Unfortunately, because the Australian internal borders, separate Premiers of different political parties, it is sometimes hard, not to (unintentionally) fall into the trap of political speak
My own political position, is that I am a swinging voter, and therefore have no reason to push any particular party, or ideology
Just looking back through the thread which was closed, it looks as though my opinion/s, may have upset some people
I still stick to my opinion/s, and point out, that I accept the fact, that anyone always has the right to disagree with me, as I have the right to disagree with them

Hi Tony,
Thank you for your consideration.
When I posted that news it was purely for the purpose of updating the current situation for members. It was not my intention to bring politics into it.
I find that many topics get dragged way off topic on this forum which, when individual views become heated it almost always ends in a closed topic.
I was disappointed that the topic deteriorated to an all time low.
Regards
Angie

Some time back I was a director of an organisation that hosted a forum. That forum sometimes became very personal. In the end legal advice and the implication that the host became responsible for forum content resulted in the forum being shut down. I'm surprised that many thread get as far as they do here.
One of the problems now days is that it can be very difficult to make a comment without some reader somewhere taking it to a political level.
The moderator has my support shutting down ANY thread that shows any sign of breaking forum rules.

I moderate on Ford Forums For over 20 years . We either delete or change posts if any personal things are said . We usually change from saying Fwit to idiot . Etc so the conversation doesnt die . Theres so many trolls . Best not to feed them !! Some banned for short time , some permanently !! We have a special thread / forum for gov subjects .,
