Just been told by staff member of a pharmacy that vanners are not welcome.
Lets' help them achieve their wishes and avoid this town.

Does that single person represent the opinion the entire town?

We found the caravan park there, the manager a bit on the rude side.

If a business owner makes off-putting remarks, then that will reflect on other business owners in town. I leaves the impression that those remarks reflect the thoughts of the entire business community.

Surely you jest? Very narrow minded.....if the chap in the local bakery told you that the whole town absolutely loved vanners,is it likely that you would post such information? How you can suggest that one remark from one staff member at one business can possibly represent the opinions, and attitudes,of the whole town is beyond me. Cheers.

Get a grip Snippy demonising a whole town on one comment is just being ridiculous, I wonder how many Ignorant or Arrogant travellers this person has come across. Attacking the staff member and then the town because you were offended is extremely brave of you.

Hi Snippy, that person may be just having a bad day, problems at home etc. anyway the mayor says the area is welcoming Grey Nomads ( in August) see below:

"Brave" of you? There probably are other adjectives more suited? Cheers

I was having a very bad day, the comment made was the last bloody straw. I make no apology, I am human too and I've bloody well had enough.

Just wondering:
How many people in a town must be negative about visitors before it's valid to post about it to this forum?

When I was in a group in somewhere at Poeppels corner, a friend had a problem back home in Melb with a critically ill grand child. Charters towers is a huge "Forwarding Post" of the royal Flying Doctor and keeps contact an locations of all registered users of H.F Radio through out Australia's outback
Not only did the folks in Melbourne have their calls relayed back to us but also Charters were going to arrange a flight back to Melb at the drop of a hat by an airline if required.
All done by Volunteers mind you.
I have a real soft spot for Charters and so would many desert travelers. Those conversations were of course open to all on air and it was a very emotive response for all concerned. Fortunately the child pulled through.
But I have to make just one complaint about Charters. We couldn't get a peg into the ground to hold down the tent.
I am never going back to that terrible place....

I would go back to Charters Towers (C.T) in a heart beat. Town full of Heritage Style Buildings, plus Australian history, not to mention the large Education boarding schools for the kids living in our great country regions.
Do you really mean that you will never go back to C.T because of a bit of hard ground.
Love the township

Kevin, why not relay your experience to the Charters Towers Chamber of Commerce? Point out that it's already receiving some negative social media comment. A little push in the right direction can always help.

We stayed for a good visit in Charters Towers about a year ago and we found the town to be friendly, interesting and most accomodating.
I might add that we did pay our way and were not looking to camp there for extended times for little to no cost.
Regards
Angie

Brings to mind the old proverb.
"One swallow does not a summer make"
A bit tough judging a town on the comments of one grumpster.

It is easier to be critical, than it is to be correct. To be correct you need to know all the facts.

But thanks for your concern.

Agree and It's quite clear that either your not giving them or you just made an assumption, we all make bad calls but swallowing your pride is difficult.

We pulled into a van park in Charters Towers about 15 years ago, they had one site left and wanted $42 for the night. I looked at her and said " I will find a gravel pit thanks". I don`t think she was too impressed, but who cares.
We then went to another van park and they set us up in the unpowered area , connected us to power and water for half the price.
