Hi all, Benny here and new to the forum/motor home life.
I have just purchased our fist motor home a 1997 Nissan civilian and after a little help please, Rang my insurance company (RAC) and they do not insure buses or motor homes apparently.
Have tried a few others Shannon's (don't insure buses converted to motor homes) APIA (don't insure grey imports even through I have records that say the bus was sold new in WA in 1997, APIA say as it is a civilian it must have been imported so no luck there)
I am currently waiting on CIL to get back to me from an online inquire so hopefully something there.
Any help would be appreciated as am not willing to drive with out insurance and its not the same sitting in the driveway pretending to be on the road.
Thanks in advance,
Benny

Ken Tame specialises in motorhomes. You will need to join the CMCA.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter
Thanks for this have sent an email inquire off to them.
Like you I had my car and caravan (for many years), insured with RAC WA
Like you they they informed me that they do not insure motorhomes, something about size and weight restrictions
For the first year, I went with SGIO WA, as their office was around the corner, from RAC (in my town)
SGIO only covers for damage to vehicles, and (at that time), did not offer extras, like getting you home
After a bit of research I found that both CIL, and Ken Tame, were very close in regards to what they offered, and within the same price range
I picked CIL as (at that time), reading the product disclosure of Ken Tame, I interpreted their words as meaning that if the driver was not a paid up member of CMCA, then the vehicle was not insured
People on this forum had told me that my interpretation was wrong, about Ken Tame, but I went with what I had read, and not what was said
Do your research, and ask around, but it would pay to read the product disclosure of each insurer, as cheaper is sometimes not the best, for our individual requirements
I have no problems with CIL, as two years ago, I had a storm damaged awning replaced, and early this year, I had a broken windscreen replaced
Hope when you get going, there are many happy road trips, ahead of you both

If CIL can't help you may need to have a broker arrange cover for you.

The CMCA owns the policy. Ken Tame is only the broker on behalf of the CMCA. Like all insurance there is an underwriter.
