Apparently this fella declined all offers of assistance, and chose to continue his journey as a 3 wheeler, plus brake drum! The recently departed wheel was abandoned on the roadside.Experience tells me that he wouldn't have got far before the brake drum disintegrated, but it takes all kinds,I guess.Cheers
He probably won't do it a second time after the repair bill..... or maybe he will.

What I don't understand is why he chose to leave the wheel on the roadside? Cheers

Nutcase!
Apart from the fact that one can put a new tyre on the rim, it is the same as people leaving their rubbish behind expecting others to clean up after them.

There was obviously loose nuts on that wheel, and probably a loose nut, behind the steering wheel

What would you wreck doing that? Would you need to replace the suspension?

I have seen a rim steel rim that had been going round and round without a tyre and was a perfect circle just shy of the stud holes
It pays to keep a constant check on whats going on down the back
Cheers

It's not as if he had a shortage of share wheels & if he had TPMS he could have simply moved it to the spare. Easy.
Probably the sort of person who would prefer to keep upgrading televisions.

Probably quite easy to happen - stereo up high so no noise from the caravan plus no difference in the 'feel' of the van behind as it's a tandem wheel setup which are more stable and possibly the brake drum was not skidding on the road due to rocker suspension design.
Plus we don't know the full story !!
Good Luck.

Hi Denis....Because I am not flash on computers, those pictures are actually screen shots from a video. As I said in the first post, the driver had been stopped, and alerted to the problem, but declined all offers of assistance, preferring to continue his journey at a very low speed. The brake drum was in direct contact with the road, and was turning rapidly! Perhaps he lived locally...Cheers.
