My personal opinion is the Queensland Premier did for the most the right thing keeping the border crossing under control while the state managed the convic19 pandemic, yes there were a few questionable things that happen.

Have you tried to book a caravan site in qld lately , dont think we will miss the ones that are so self centred they think the border closures were a personal attack . there money isn't the only money out there .

Ah, the media reporting at its best.
We have friends who manage a large caravan park in NQ and apart from the seven weeks when the state was in full lock down the occupancy in their park has been up by approx 45%
For example the month of October last year had a 26% occupancy after all the southerners went home. This October showed a 76% occupancy. A lot of these clients were Queenslanders who in previous years didnt travel because the parks were full of southerners. My friends report a steady flow of people visiting the park right throughout the year, with the peak winter period them still being booked out most weeks.
My friends comment on the situation was that it will be interesting to see what happens in 2021 when southerners will want their spots back and those spots may well be occupied by others who have discovered these parks during the interstate travel ban.
It may be interesting.

Yep, we are amongst the 'locals' who traditionally moan about the lack of good sites at Qld CPs because of the long stay southeners who book out sites from year to year, often for months at a time.
If it's not the mexicans its the school kids. Always something to winge about, hey? LOL
At least, their money keeps the CPs & local businesses going, so that's got to be a good thing & we just fit in where there's an opportunity.

Until Qld underwrites all airfares, travel costs, accommodation bookings and guarantees FULL refunds - I suggest we just boycott.
I am in agreement with most of those that commented in the article, I believe the Qld Premier selfishly treated other Australians abominably, (just not Australian way).

BTW .. The State election result (& a succession of polls) demonstrated that the Qld Premier has the support of the vast majority of Queenslanders.

Makes me laugh. Almost every person in Australia is happy that we have locked down our international borders to keep Covid out but we have a heap of people who are winging because states have locked their borders to keep covid out. We would have ended up like the US if we kept everything open. Take a look at what happens in the US over the next 3 weeks. Lots of travel for their holiday will most likely result in a big increase in cases.

Yes, so nice to visit places NOT infested with self-entitled out-of-staters. I have not been able to get into one place that was a favourite before the southern invaders flocked in and stayed for months on end. Entirely different situation. What we are amused about is the Queensland tourist industry so up themselves as to practically demand we southerners expose ourselves to intolerable heat, rain, and lethal jellyfish just because they say we should.
Cairns above 30 every day for the next week, above 20 every night, extreme UV index and high humidity.
I'd post conditions where I am but it's a nice place and I don't want a million frazzled Queensland ears racing south to get hete

Wrong time to be up at QLD.
SA get my Xmas holiday money or southern NSW.
Next winter I'm off to N.T QLD and WA can go forth and multiply with their attitudes.
Love QLD and will come back in a few years when they have calmed down and don't think they are all about to die.
WA I want to visit as well, but I think I will do N.T and Spend my money there first and spend less time in WA.
I would hate to have grandkids and family in general in QLD/WA..how uncaring are these 2 states, no compassion at all.
What happened to we are all Australian...yeah right.. We are in it for ourselves.

Lets not forget that not all tourists to Qld. (Or anywhere in Oz) are Nomads. A lot of families only get holidays during Dec: & Jan. Plenty of holiday spots will be popular in the next couple of months.
Seems like a few grumpy southerners here, but Qld. & Northern NSW will full again from around April next year. Hope the few idiots who want to break isolation rules dont ruin things for everyone & any plans for travel you are making workout.

I drove Gold Coast to Rocky today, just me and the Hilux. Very few vans on the road and only Calliope River had remotely large numbers in camp. Some free camps had one or two campers. Compared to Oct (my last trip) the highway was deserted above Gympie. 36 in Rocky, probably 37 tomorrow (Tues) it's warming up. West is mid 40s too. I know there are heat wave conditions around but it's a safe bet people are going home for Christmas and summer.

I see some have indicated that when the dust settles and come June 1st 2021, We will go and visit friends again and it will not matter a damn what happened over the Pandemic controls.
I don't vote Labour but being a Victorian, it was enough to see the results of a few major errors. The resultant hard work of our premier was wonderful. Qld did their best; I cant fault their efforts.
Not every one you appoint will know how to perform and that is hard to control.
But honestly we missed the boat to come up this year. A happy Xmas to you all.

Never sure whether to be angered or amused when I read about these sort of places being spoken of as glowing examples of RV friendliness by RV'ers who never had experience of them when they were far from friendly, where the desperate dollar driven mindset suddenly made the unwelcome welcome.
To the whingers about closed borders with their pointing fingers, we should be applauding our State leaders for maintaining the State border restrictions to protect Australians when constantly under fire from the Fedreral gov't, the Murdoch press, the right wing idealists ,the selfish but frustrated profiteers & the Wacko conspiracy theorists. (ie. all the snivelling finger pointers). Our state leaders stood strong to keep us strong & provided a model much of the world look up to. They understood that if Covid was able to spread as it has been allowed to in many parts of the world to, aiming 'protect the economy' without protecting the people , that we would all be in a far worse position than we now find ourselves in. Instead of carping, give praise where praise is due!
