Hi everyone. Looking for suggestions. Crows love our caravan roof because of the aircon. Water. Have got van tilted but there are a few dips where water pools. thought of putting toy stuffed cat on roof but as crows are smart they will not take long to figure out it means them no harm. do not want to harm them and i know they need water, there is plenty around. i just dont want them on roof. They love the tv antenna also. They make so much noise flying off it that i am concerned they will damage it. I thought maybe zip ties would work. Anyone els3 solved this dilema? Cheers. Rocket

Not saying that you should do this, but, we had problems with crows pinching our eggs so the old guy next door told our two boys to kill a crow and hang it up in the chook pen which they did unbeknown to us . It worked very well . Again dont do this a home boys and girls .

Places in Europe that have bird busters sweeping above the insulators on high voltage lines to stop storks building their nests - so well proven system

Eggs on bits of fencing wire sticking out a few inches from the tops of fence posts, and a set rabbit trap on the tops of the posts.
Solution is probably a bit more permanent than you were looking for

Had same problem up until I put a cover on van. Went to Bunnings and bought a couple of those plastic birds that look a little bit like a crow with wings spread, painted black and attached to the top of a pole with heavy fishing line beside the van so they swing in the breeze. Worked for about 6 months till they woke up, damn cunning things

(yes, I know I'm a soft touch....)
If you put out a bird bath for them, would they leave your airconditioner alone?

Isn't one of the reasons you go caravanning is to have the birds and other fauna about and up close.
I put out some food and water and sit under the awning and watch them. I would rather hear them walking around on the roof than some galah with a generator or loud music.

Birds do not have taste buds for heat.

You don't need a proper bird bath, just a plastic chook waterer, use just the saucer or the whole thing if they'll use it. Another saucer for some treats and you'll be their best friend. And hopefully they'll use the provided facilities and leave your roof alone.

My gold pan doubles up as a bird bath in hot weather, the bees like it too as it has sloping sides and they don't fall in.

Yes, anything to use as a saucer and somewhere to put it off the ground will do.

Before John Howard convinced me that I didn't need my .22 rifle anymore, a crow clomping around on the work caravan roof could be shifted by simply ****ing the rifle inside. Walking outside & there was not a crow within cooey!!

Hi The Rocket,
I know you don't want to harm them. However they will do more harm to you and those around you. Its there droppings their habits of eating dead road kill daily, as well as the rotting food humans leave behind at over night stops and the truck stops as well. Then they visit you and leave the calling card.
I would collect all water Via a hose system and park it far from your van.
In lambing season, the sight of new born lambs with one or both eyes plucked out, even makes me cry. We have to put our income down.
A .22 42grain bit of lead, does the most humane way of dealing with them on the farm. the cost to us in lost income each and every year is very high. We pit and burn them to stop the spread of disease.

Are Crows protected? Oops, my bad. If I say they attacked me is that a good enough defence !
Unfortunately as much as I rely on my Genny to scare them of, it just didn't work.
Fishing line !! Start the geni ? OOOPS ! Stone the crows !!

All Australian wildlife is protected as far as I know.
The cut-out flying hawk on a bit of stretched fishing line works.

A minor clarification: with certain obscure exceptions all Australian *native* wildlife is protected.

Who knew we had Australian crows? I stand corrected about them.
For 'the rocket' make sure you have the correct crows before taking extreme action against them.
But rabbits, foxes, sparrows and of course carp are definitely not native wildlife.
