The Federal Court has ordered Kogan Australia Pty Ltd (Kogan) to pay a penalty of $350,000 for making false or misleading representations about a tax time sales promotion, in breach of Australian Consumer Law.
I have bought a few things from them over the years and there is always a dispute about the article.
Latest is a rotary cage air fryer - two varieties - one plastic, one stainless steel
I ordered the ss model.
When it came, it was plastic with a decorative (and useless) applique to the front panel.
When challenged, the corresponded pointed to the description that said that the cage and shelves were ss - "see the description"?
I arced up and asked them if the shelves and drum were plastic in the plastic model.
It took a lot of correspondence and a note from consumers affairs to straighten them out.
SHOP WITH CAUTION!

I was considering buying an electric grill from Kogan but the description did not include the wattage, so I used the contact us facility and asked the question. Back came the reply that the output wattage is 2400 watts. You beauty I thought and went ahead with the purchase as most similar products are 2000 watts. When the grill arrived the specification label shows only 1000 watts. Several emails later, and allegations by me that fair trading laws had been breached by Kogan, I still have the product as Kogan would do nothing for me because the item is not faulty, other than of course the fact that it takes three weeks to cook a sausage.

We've bought a variety of things for Kogan and never had a problem with an item description or delivery. Two items (one electronic, other a furniture piece) have developed faults and both were remedied with little effort. We research our options before committing. otoh, I had issues and non-service with no resolution and no refund from face to face dealings with a local Harvey Norman. I've been travelling the extra 10km to another HN franchise for about 18 yrs now. Aldi is no better when it comes to after sales and warranty work. From my point of view, I'd buy from Kogan before a few of the alternatives. I'm not saying Kogan didn't mislead buyers and it's clearly a good ruling. caveat emptor.

Purchased from them last year, most unsatisfactory transaction.
The item was listed in stock.
Ordered and payed for it, very slow to ship, and couldn't get any satisfaction to my inquiry as to the status of the order.
It arrived two weeks after I submitted the order, never again.

Unfortunately no recourse for the buyers that were mislead. In a lot of other industries/professions, the party at fault has to pay back the money plus interest.

After one instance with Kogan, it tarnished my view regarding buying on the internet. I am sure that there are many who are above board.
The biggest problem I see and hear about is trying to talk directly with the said company

Interesting reading about the different experiences with this Company from different members here. I recently ordered a caravan cover from Kogan and received it within the stated delivery time without an issue. Must have been my lucky day.

I've had a couple of bad experiences with them. One over a mobile phone. Don't shop there any more.

Good way of putting it.
