Should we clean the inside of our water tanks. If so what with and how often. Also should we leave them full or empty while not in use for about 3-4 months at a time.

Some people like to drain them completely
Others like to fill them to the top to stop bacteria growth forming in the remaining water.
When we are home we drain the remainder of water on to our garden after putting the stability legs down, I then fill our tanks to the top.
When we leave home if it is more then a few weeks I will drain the tanks and refill with our good Brisbane water.
Been doing this now for 9 years without an issue.

I have a weight issue with water in my tanks when towing so don't. I do fill tanks when freedom camping for over a week but empty before I leave. Anything under a week I just work with 10lt containers I carry in Collie. So my tanks don't have water most of the time.
As for cleaning, yes I do, once a year though and empty 2lts of Milton baby bottle cleaner into tanks first then fill with water, leave for a couple of days or drive around then drain.
All seems fine and have been doing this for 6 years now.

Thanks for the replies. Couple of good suggestions there.
