I read in Today's Bulletin that the Council website for booking stays at the city's sites (beaches, in the mountains - no I would not take van to Paluma) has been released. It is https://townsville.book-able.net.au/
As reported last year they will eventually add a charge but the first 12 months are supposed to be free.

Hi Brodie,
They have been free all along - the council now wants to manage them so people don't overstay their 48 hrs as does happen.
As mentioned last year a fee will be charged after the 12 month trial period - what that will be in one of Qld's most expensive council districts is anyone's guess.
Our rates are going up 2%, they'e just wasted $170,00 on a by election that wasn't required. Welcome to Townsville!
